Your argument is without logic, for there is also happiness in this world too. It is better to live in a world of pain AND happiness, then to have nothing. So if there be no afterlife then mankind would do better to hold on to what they have now, while they still have it, than to throw it away. "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die."
There is no "world" of nothingness, and the concept is a contradiction of itself, for if there is nothing, then there can be no "world."
Neither can you "feel" nothing, for to feel requires something, and if there is nothing, then you would not "feel" it.

Because 1) No one knows what happens when you die. Scientists say you just die, then disintegrate. Some religions believe in reincarnation, such as Buddhism. Some people are afraid of that nothing-ness or of that they don't know what will happen.
2) In the latter, reincarnation, you have to accomplish things in your life to "step up" to the next echelon. It is also a "sin" in some religions to commit suicide.
3) In the prior, nothing, life where there is happiness and pleasure is preferable to nothing.
People who commit suicide are, as the quoted person says, fed up with pain they have been experiencing all their lives and are just ready for a change, even if that involves destroying your body in the process. I happen to be an Atheist so I think that we should try to enjoy life as much as possible before there is nothing left.

Yeh, I used to be suicidal, but I now believe in God. And the bible isn't clear about whether a spirit can be saved if they take there own life. So it might be a bad mistake since you can't undo the mistake once you have done it!- those whom are tired of carrying heavy burdens should give there bodies to Christs spirit so he can do some good through them. So you life doesn't go to waste. And also he will show you the truth about life and that a lot of what we reap has to do with what we sow. So he will help save you from yourself. And help release you from your own chains of bondage. Here is a another thing, I believe suffering has a purpose in teaching the soul that evil is a bad choice, and refines us into a stronger spirit for when the body dies. Because we will become like the angels, but will also be judges of angels for we have experienced life and its trials - so we become super angels of a mighty order, those whom find this special way which is hidden from those whom live in darkness and decieve and plot evil all day long.- Gods new breed of angels have to go through this arena planet earth. because if we were created in heaven we would probably create another war in heaven like one third of the angels did in the begining. Lets face it man would corrupt heaven like he has down here.

I actually find life quite enjoyable, and not a world of suffering. The idea that life is meaningless without an afterlife is laughable.

You do have a point you know so the question is more what is keeping you?
I sure know what is keeping me but it's up to all of us to do our homework especially when it comes to matters of everlasting life and or death... We all are given a choice! It's rather simple once you dig for the truth of all things as for fine gold. It is well worth the effort. I assure you!!!
May God and life bless you to the max!

Geez, what a sad life you must be living.
When you die, it's all over for you. That's an excellent reason to live life to its fullest. That is all that you have. Nothing else matters.

If nothing happens when you die... then once you die, you can't go back. You can't say sorry to people. You can't fix the wrongs you may have done. You can't just wake up and go on with life.
That's it. That's all. You're dead.

Don't take life so seriously. I believe in God but if someone doesn't believe then I can see your point.
Weather I am wrong or they are wrong, I don't want to take that chance would you?
