Everyone has trouble with the tax collector at some point. Which is why your state tax office has several plans in place. Of course they want their money, but remember, it is actually 'your' money - the people's money.

The state cannot take action as long as you offer to repay an agreeable amount over an agreeable time period. Write them a letter outlining what you are prepared to do. Include post dated checks and/or agree to a monthly automated debit.

If they are unreasonable after three or four attempts and appeals - which they may be - request a reassement for as many years as you have paid taxes, in writing.

Do this and I guarantee that you will get what you want / need.

Most states have programs to assist or allow you to pay off the taxes over time. Especially if the reason you cannot pay the taxes is due to hardship.

Call your States Tax Dept. and ask what can be done to assist you.

Of course, depending on the Tax, you can try to fight them over how much you owe, if you really feel that you don't owe the money.

A local welfare office, but it would probably take ages.

Don't bother with all those places that offer 'loans'...they are a rip-off. Maybe you could get temporary help from your family.
