There are hundreds of good schools. It all depends what you want to study: Signal processing? Computing? VLSI? Communications? Computer Sciense? Nanotechnology? etc.

Some are more expensive than others. Stanford for example is more expensive than Berkeley or UCLA. Can you afford the private schools?

Check with your professors at your school and I am sure they will advise you well. You have a higher chance to be accepted in a school where they know your professors and where they have already accepted other students from your school.

It really depends on where your interest lay.

Do you want to get into controls, power, computer design, On the doctoral level, research in new technologies, or very niche kinds of applications. Look through journals from a field that looks interesting and see where the people who are publishing in those fields seem to be doing their work. Those would be the best ones to keep an eye on.

The universities are very specific and compartmentalized and very dependent on what their faculty is interested in pursuing. If you want the same thing they are very excited about, you will be a good fit and they will actively consider you and will "take you along" as they rise within that niche toward their Nobel Prizes. If you are brilliant in something of no interest to them they will not want you and you would be miserable and misplaced there sitting in some dusty corner and not getting support or grants..

Depends on what area you want to specialize in, also if you have a good rapport with a Professor at one of the school you visit that may be the best one for you.

Rose Hullman is one of the top rated engineering schools in the country. It is relatively small, very exclusive and extremely expensive but is one of the best.
