Yes, most women do. At 37 weighed 137 lbs ( I am 5'7")and had surgery that started my menopause. I now weigh 183.
I am older but try to keep my eating under control.

The lack of natural estrogen (I have taken Premarin for 29 years) does not help control weight. It doesn't seem important at 2 lbs a year, but when they pile up, it becomes more disconcerting.

But the secret is that the older you get, the less important it is.
I do not want to be fat, but I will never be 25 or thin again.
You do get adjusted, like it or not.

But I will die with red Hair. I had to drop the dying thin part.

yes off course,'Experiencing Menopause' is experiencing a transition in life for a woman. No more periods, no more child-bearing, no more milk producing capability are but some of the things that immediately hits a woman. There are also changes in appearance and less vaginal secretions that follow.

This transition can be the most traumatic and at times psychologically depressing but there are two sides to it: on one side there is sadness and gloom but on the other there is liberation and freedom from the monthly routine and perhaps sometimes more wisdom and maturity.

Menopause usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 55 and is a natural biological event in a woman's life. During Menopause ovulation (egg production) ceases, eliminating the possibility of pregnancy, and menstruation becomes less frequent and eventually stops. In India, Menopause begins early. In some women, menstrual activity stops suddenly, but it usually tapers off, both in amount and duration of flow and frequently the menstrual periods become more closely or more widely spaced. This irregularity may last for 2 or 3 years before menstruation finally stops.

To understand menopause it is important to understand the physiology of hormones in a woman.
The symptoms of menopause are caused by changes in estrogen and progesterone levels. As the ovaries become less functional, they produce less estrogen/progesterone and the body subsequently reacts. Some women experience no symptoms, while others experience mild to sever symptoms. This variation is normal. A gradual decrease of estrogen allows the body to slowly adjust to the hormone change, but in some women a sudden decrease in estrogen level occurs, causing severe symptoms. This result is often seen when menopause is caused by surgical removal of uterus (Surgical Menopause).
Menopause - Treatment
Natural menopause requires no treatment.

Sometimes ovaries are removed in young women due to a surgical reason and this kind of Menopause is called 'Surgical Menopause'. Surgical menopause that occurs prior to natural menopause may require estrogen or Hormone Replacement Therapy (ERT or HRT).

Not all postmenopausal women need to be treated with HRT.

Estrogen replacement therapy is also a popular treatment especially in developed countries for women to avoid the natural body changes which are equated to 'getting old'. HRT can help to reduce the undesirable symptoms of Menopause such as vaginal dryness and prevent Osteoporosis after Menopause.

It's not a guarantee. My mother-in-law is post-menopausal and has lower body fat than I do! It can just be more difficult. Lean muscle typically decreases, which can slow your metabolism, and as you age, you tend to store more fat around your organs ("visceral fat"). Hormonal shifts don't help. If you maintain a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise, you can avoid much of it.
