How do I get my deaf puppy to stop biting me?

I have a deaf 10 month old Bull Terrier Mix puppy and he won't stop biting me. He isn't trying to be mean, he just uses biting as a means of playing. He obviously doesn't respond to "no" so any ideas on how to get him to stop would be great!

You have to teach them not to bite, mother dogs teach their puppies not to bite or at least not to bite too hard, when a puppy is whined too early, it has no chance to learn from it's mother... As to how to get rid of any nasty habit, you have to catch him in the act and correct him... If he bites YOU, pull away from him (like it hurts, they understand that) and then ignore him for a while, dogs really feel being ignored (turn your back on them, push them aside, send him to his pen grounded, they understand that body language)... Whatever you do, stop paying attention to him immediately or playing with him, ignore him for the rest of the day, BUT you have to do this immediately when he bites you, every time he does it, so he can relate the punishment with the biting, there is no use on punishing a dog an hour after he committed any crime, as they will not relate, thus not correcting their behavior.

Do not hit, smack, hold down, or restrain your dog. This will either make him scared of you and therefore possibly aggressive or stress him out more and make him want to fight back.

Remove your attention from your dog whenever he bites you. When he bites, leave the room for five seconds. Then return to playing (with a toy). If he bites you again, you leave again. This is a negative effect of his behaviour, and he will soon learn that to continue his fun playtime with you, he is not allowed to bite you.

You have a real serious problem here. Bull terriers are very difficult to train and very dominant by nature during play. Even a bull terrier than can hear will often choose to ignore you. This is a situation requiring the assistance from someone from the rescue club of the national club for Bull Terriers. Do a google for the club and send them an inquiry on your situation. They will likely have suggestions for trainers in your area or even have breeders in your area who are knowledgeable with this kind of problem. By all means, do not rely on the help of people from the net who just want to post a simple answer based on no knowledge whatsoever.

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Be nice. Go down to his level, after you've been playing for a while, stop allowing him to bite you. If he's too quick, point your finger at him. When he bites at it push your finger on his tongue, he'll let go. Do this until he associates the bite with bad feeling of his tongue being pushed.
Be consistant, never allow him to bite you again.

You can just blow in his face (a quick burst- it's aversive but not painful, and does not require any equipment), and then mouth the word "NO" with your index finger pointing up in the air or your hand open with the palm facing him.

Like hearing impaired/deaf children, he will learn your mouth movements and facial expressions and hand gestures if you are consistent with them. Create a system of gestures to use to train him.

For one thing no playing using your hands or feet, just a toy or tug a rope ( no old clothes or shoes either - dogs don't know good from bad shoes & everything gets chewed ) ... also when he bites your hand ..gently hold his mouth closed, raise your finger & shake your head no...it'll take a bit of doing but if your persistent & patient, they really do learn your facial expressions & hand signals, when he doesn't bite...lots of good dog chest rubs & tiny treats/reward ...Take Care :)

Give him a little love tap on his nose and shake your finger at him. Is he just coming up to you and nipping you or is he just when he wants to play? If he just does it then do like i said give him a love tap, but if he is doing it when he wants to play then just shake your finger at him and you have to do it every time i mean you cant just do it once and then 2 sec. then him do it or decide to play with him.
And you have to do it when they are in the act. But i wouldnt ingnore him all day for it. That is a little harsh and then he wouldnt be sure what he did wrong. After a few hours he will forget about it anyways. So Just tap him on the nose shake ur finger at him. Look at him directly.

If he is trying to play don’t squirt him with water he doesn’t under stand what that means he will just think your being mean just push him away when he starts to bite and say no he will get the hint what no means
