I bought a 5.1 home theatre speaker set which has 3 inlets (named front, rear and central with subwoofer). It comes with cables for each of them (3 cables).
Each cable has split ends - a red and a white.....i.e., 6 ends in total (3 white and 3 red).
But I have a dvd player with only 2 audio outlet (left and right - white and red).
Not sure what to do.

Yes, you need a surround 5.1 A/V receiver. See link below.

Need a five channel amplifier or receiver for your five speakers.
Your DVD player will not be able to power two speakers let alone five speakers.
