Catholics believe that life is a sacred gift from God and needs to be treated with all human dignity from the moment of conception to the point of natural death.

The Catholic Church supports stem cell research as long as the stem cells are not taken from aborted embryos whom we consider are murdered innocent human beings.

No moral good can ever come from a moral evil or, in other words, the end does not justify the means.

Here is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops's web page on stem cell research: http://www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/bioethic/index.shtml

The Catholic Church is not just against embryonic stem cell research, it is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."

This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
+ All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
+ The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in vitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
+ The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanasia
+ Prisoners in objecting to the death penalty
+ The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.

With love in Christ.

Fetal stem cell reasearch requires the destruction of a living human being. Why? That is what believers in LIFE want to know! There has not been a SINGLE instance where fetal stem cell research has shown any potential.

Now ADULT stem cell reserch removes cells from - adults- and uses them to help cure disease. There have been promising results in Parkinson's, and diabetes research- among others.

So- why is it we need to do research that requires the destruction of unborn children---research that has accomplished NOTHING????

The Catholic Church is fine and encourages ADULT stem cell research, but opposes EMBRYONIC stem cell research because embryonic stem cell research involved the destructuon of embryos. The catholic Church considers life to begin at conception.

The Church is against embryonic stem cell research. They support other types of stem cell research.
