Has anyone had to get "The morning after pill" for their dog? How much did it cost and was there any side effects?

It is not a pill, it is a shot (called MisMate). It can be very hard on the dog though, and it often causes pyometra (infected uterus) which is a very serious condition that means that the dog will have to have an emergency spay. The MisMate shot is not too horribly expensive (about $30 per shot), but the surgery for pyometra is (about $1000).

I asked a question about it a couple months ago. MY Vet refused to do it he said there are to many side effects and can result in the dogs death! Don't do it

Most vets will NOT dispense or recommend this medication. It does have very serious side effects one of which is death.

The best way to prevent pregnancy is 1) either closely supervise your dog when she is in heat (if she is a show dog) 2) get her spayed (if she is a companion only dog)

not a pill,, called a "mismate shot" has to be done within a certain time frame though.. call the vet for advice... please note,, it is not 100% effective though .. spaying would be your best bet..

I think you only have a day or two, if even to get it done- call your vet.
