Fleas don't live inside an animal. The kitten's mother probabaly had them and that's where they contracted the fleas. Fleas are like rabbits x 100 when it comes to producing offspring. Your cat might've picked up one or two fleas that you didn't notice.
Take your cat with her kittens to the veterinarian to make sure the product won't harm your pets. There are two categories of medication for kitten care: products that kill adult fleas now and products that affect flea offspring-the eggs and larvae. Products that affect flea offspring are called Insect Growth Regulators (IGR's). IGRs are very effective when you can clean up the environment and the kitten will have little exposure to fleas in the future, either from the environment or from other animals-such as our indoor cats. These products have IGRs or prevent flea egg development: Sentinel, Program, Revolution, and Frontline Plus flea control.
The key to good flea control is cleanliness in the environment and on your pet.
For flea infested rooms the following should be done before insecticides are used. Steam cleaning your carpet will kill all flea life stages if done properly. Special attention should be given to baseboards, sheltered areas under furniture, and the spaces around and under furniture cushions. If an insecticide still needs to be used follow instructions closely.
If you don't have a primary veterinarian, check out the following links for information. It's sort of like a "web vet." The last link will help you find a veterinarian in your area.

Haha, NO!
You can't just be BORN with some extra animals on you. After the cat is born, it might get them quickly from other cats or something. But NO, fleas can't grow INSIDE a mother cat!
If your cat has fleas, it doesn't mean it was born with them - it just means that it got them from somewhere, most likely another animal or even a human.

Fleas, I don't belive they can be born with fleas but perhaps can collect fleas from the mother or bedding when being born. Might be worth a check with a vet. We help get rid of them

Technically, no - there's no way for the fleas to get *inside* the mother kitty, so the kittens aren't going to have the fleas already when they are born. However, fleas on the mother kitty or other pets in the home, in the carpets, etc. can jump onto them within seconds of birth. And the fleas are easier to see on the kittens who are smaller and have thinner fur; it may be that your cats had a few you weren't aware of before.

No, but they can become infested with them upon birth and become anemic (among other things) if you don't remove them. If they are kittens they got them from the mom. Somewhere, somehow your cats were exposed to either fleas or their eggs. Go to your vet and get something like frontline or advantage-it's a once a month application flea killer you can use on cats and kittens, without messy sprays or powders or collars

If the Mother is infested with fleas, they will definitely spread to the kittens. But do NOT use any flea product on Mother or kittens!!! It can be fatal. Ask you vet how to handle this situation. Flea products are very dangerous on cats, and fatal to kittens.

They can't acquire fleas in the womb, but could acquire them right after birth from the surrounding environment.

No, fleas can't be inside of the mother to get onto the kittens. Either they are transfered from mom to kitty or they are coming off of the ground onto the kitty.
