Well Teresa, I myself have often wondered why some many Canine Nutritionists spend so much time on Yahoo instead of developing new and even more expensive brands of dog food to push down people's throats. (LOL) I grew up in a family of vet's and kennel operations. We personally never fed Purina Dog Chow, but saw many happy healthy dogs that ate that crap and never had a problem. Funny how if you look back to the days before man ruined the canine by domestication & selective breeding they used to eat raw and/or rotten meat. Dogs left to their own today are scavengers and will eat poop, trash & vomit just to name a few. Science Diet is not the best food out there, nor is it the worst. If one can afford the best, then a raw diet is best. If one cannot, then rest assured that even the "crap" you get at the grocery store is better than poop, trash or vomit.

Science Diet is a high priced low quality food. It is loaded with cheap fillers & by products. It doesn't contain the essential meat proteins that dogs need. Dogs are carnivores, meat eaters not grain eaters. Grain laden foods are far better for goats & chickens then they are for dogs.
The prescription Diets are ok for pets with special medical needs (although there are better prescription diets out there), but to feed just everyday for normal healthy pets it is a very poor choice.
Vets do NOT get paid by Hill's for carrying their Science Diet foods..Vets like any other pet business MUST BUY the food at wholesale prices and then sell at a retail..that is the ONLY way they make money on the food.
As for IAMS/Eukanuba and Pedigree they are no better then Science Diet..just other another store brands that are full of cheap fillers...grains..and by products.

I tried science diet for a while..but it had a lot of ingredients that didn't agree with my dogs. for instance, my golden retriever started becoming short of breath (don't know if it's because of the food, but maybe) and my maltese got really bad tear stains (because of the beet pulp). try Wellness food. it's all natural, human grade food, with NO by products. that's key. ever since this recall, so many brands are being taken off the shelf because of harmful, unnatural ingredients (not that science diet dog food did, but there are by products in in). there's none in wellness! they write memos everytime there are recalls, saying that they keep with the highest of standards and are not affected. this food is not available in places like petsmart or petco, but a lot of local pet stores carry it. they have a store locator on the website. trust me, your dog will LOVE this food.

Despite it being pushed by vets, Science Diet is a lower quality food that has mediocre ingredients which include 4-D meat and wood pulp.

My vety said that Science Diet pays them to put Science diet in the office. He said it's not very nutritional . He recomended Iams or Pedigree. You can also get Eukanuba, but Iams is just as good for less $!

Science Diet was the only thing that kept my Yorkie Terrier alive and healthy for several more years than she should have been...she would regularly have siezures, and with the SD food, these lessened, and weren't as severe. I think it is a good dog food...I'm surprised people would give you a thumbs down.

Both Iams and Science diet are full of junk, despite being advertised as being so 'good' for your pet. Vets are often paid commission by companies to push their crappy foods- sad, but true!

Nothing wrong with it at all. People just seem to love giving thumbs down to someone with a different opinion.
