I am looking for a 42" HD ready flat screen, surround sound etc. What is the difference between plasma and LCD?, which is better. I want three scarts as I still have a vcr. Any thoughts, recommendations or advice?

The main difference between Plasma and LCD is that the Plasma needs re gassing roughly every four years. LCD continue to drop in price and are now the clear 'leader' in TV displays. On scarts, most sets have at least two connectors and you can always buy a scart expansion block for less than £10.
On what model to buy, even the cheap HD ready units from Asda and Tesco etc offer at least two years warranty and good performance/specification. If you buy a 'proper' badged TV, you are usually simply paying for the badge.
Finally, forget buying extended warranty and keep in mind that most people will be replacing today's new sets in less than five years time.

Hope this helps.

Firstly, plasma tvs do NOT need regassing.
Urban electrical myth.
They are designed to last for 10,000 viewing hours, approx a lift cycle of 10 yrs.
Buy a plasma if you enjoy watching any type of sports such as football (you dont get as much picture drag).
Pioneer tvs are fab but expensive, panasonic are also very reliable for both sound/picture quality.
Hope that helps!.

Plasma is the winner.

I have a White Westinghouse. Its picture is good and it didn't cost much. Of course it was black friday. Anyways, LCD and Plasma are pretty much the same, but Plasma TVs are the bigger ones (I think over 42") Bose has best sound but it's EXPENSIVE!

I think plasmas best as it has a wider viewing angle, and faster response ie it doesnt leave trails around the players when watching football. But lcd is cheeper.

Modern Plasmas do not need regassing and they dont burn in either.

According to an independent public survey, plasma is the best to go for in that size.
