I have a nanny for my boys. I am a single mom, my husband died when my born were a couple of months old. I went back to work soon after and hired a nanny. I can afford to stay home if I want to, but I want money to keep coming in, its just with money I would rather be safe. Also I love my job, I love my boys too, but I spend time with them when I get home from work and on the weekends. A nanny I believe is better than Daycare at least. My boys get full attention from their care giver. There is nothing wrong with having a career and being a mother.

Some women aren't much good at mothering. Even the children are better off with a good nanny than an idiot mother.
That however is quite rare, usually you have a nanny when you work, and there isn't anything wrong with that. A woman who has spent time and money going to college to become a businessperson or doctor, or teacher or whatever, needs the type of stimulation having a career entails.
If there were some sort of highly negative social stigma against career mothers, even more than there is now that is, we would be seeing fewer pregnancies among the career women, and more among the lower income women. After all a lower income woman has less to lose in terms of money and future job advancement. Its important for a child to have a loving consistant upbringing, good child care is acceptable as long as it meets those criteria.
Please remember this question and my answer have nothing to do with the more numerous women who work because they have to, you might say this is a question about the well off and the very well off.

My opinion is that this world would be a better place if we all had better things to do than pass judgments on people and their situations which we all aren't privy too. That being said, I do believe a nanny is a better choice than a daycare. Some moms aren't patient people but they try and need the extra help. What's wrong with that ? Is it better than seeing the child go to the ER because the mother in question lost her cool and couldn't get a break ? There's always a reason why people do what they do. I tend to think that if the child isn't in any harm, it's not my business.

I don't think at all positively of women who hire nannies when they have no outside job at all unless they (a) do a lot of entertainment due to their husband's executive job or (b) have a disibility of some sort. I've met a few of them, and frankly, they tend to be rather self-absorbed.

While I don't really think it's good for children to not be raised by at least one parent, I do understand why a woman would continue to pursue her career. It's not any different for women who have to work just to keep a roof over their head. For instance, my one friend's daughter sacrificed more than 10 years of her life to become a doctor. Dropping that seems pointless and a waste of many years of training. However, my friend is the nanny (well, grandmother too), so the baby is raised by family members.

it depends what's best for the child. if the mother is going to get depressed giving up work then maybe a nanny is the way to go but personally if i choose to have kids i'm not going to want to miss out on them growing up. having said that, i had a nanny as a young child and my brother didn't and i turned out to be the one with better manners and more maturity.

welp, if they aren't working at all, that seems silly. but if they are pursuing a career, i see nothing wrong with them hiring someone to watch their kids. it is probably better than leaving them at a daycare.

Everyone should do what works for THEIR family, it doesn't make any difference to me as long as their kids are healthy, happy and well loved.
