Editing music to burn and play on cd player?

What programs can be used to edit music and then burn that music to a cd to play on a cd player

There are many audio editors like Nero SoundTrax, Soundforge, Nuendo and several others.
But I prefer Nero, because it's very user friendly, after editing in Nero, save it as wave file (*.wav). Then write it out as Audio CD.

Cool Edit Pro is a nice place to start. Should be free to download, not to intense for beginners, but enough features even for experts.
