A few years ago I would have said you would have no problems but I can't say that today. The current Government with its support of Bush and the war in Iraq has made Moslems a target for racial and religious vilifiction and some sections of the comminity think it is OK to follow the government line.

We have an election later this year and it is highly likely that Howard and his cronies will be thrown out in which case we will be able to start rebuilding Australia's reputation as a tolerant and accepting society.

There are strong Moslem communities in Australia with the largest being from the Lebanon but there are people from all the Arab countries. Most of them settle into Australia very well. I can't say you won't find discrimination and you won't be verbally abused, I would be lying if I did. It is, I hope, only a temporary state of affairs but it is going to take some time.

By next summer, the election will be over. If Howard is back in, I would not recommend Australia as a desirable or safe place for Moslems or anyone of "middle eastern appearance". I never thought I would be ashamed of my country but its current policies are nasty and very anti-Arab.

Wait til after the election. If Howard is thrown out, you will be welcomed in Australia.

Id put it this way if i come to your country and i try to fit in and respect your laws, religion and way of life,I'm sure you would accept me in to your community and i think the same apply's in most places whether it be home, school, work place etc,the same apply's in Australia

Australia is a very tolerant society and people from all walks of life live and are accepted here and this apply's to Muslims,Christians,Buddhists,Hindu's etc.

but people intent on dis respecting these types of values probably aren't wanted by the majority of Aussies and don't get me wrong there are alot of Aussies who fall into this category who i think are equally frowned upon so to sum up-people who do the right things get treated the right way.

hope they enjoy Australia.

Ok as far as im concerned, Muslims are welcomed here.

Its the extremists who cause the issues in society. Alot have been here for many years, and are ashamed of the behavior of many of the young people who were born in Australia, so really that says it all
