Any reasons not to use it long term?

I have used the drug--for the 14 days with good results. If you think that you need more than one or two--14 days each--My opinion--it should be with Doctor's advice. I have not heard of any long term side effects but perhaps you need to get to the source of your problem rather than treating the problem. (unless advised by a doctor) Just me.

Hi Frankie. The medical literature is filled with reports of these common 'side effects' from using drugs like Prilosec:

1) Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (occurs in one hundred percent of patients on these drugs)

2) Vitamin B12 deficiency

3) Numerous mineral deficiencies, such as iron, zinc and calcium.

These drugs treat symptoms without fixing the underlying cause of those symptoms. It may be a good idea to find a doctor that looks for and treats causes rather than masking symptoms with dangerous drugs.

Best wishes and good luck.

P.S. Sherry Rogers, M.D. has written an excellent book on this subject. It is called: "No More Heartburn". The book is available at Amazon.com.
