I'm getting into Martial Arts and Ninjitsu, and I think that Ninjas are really cool and everything. I found a ninja uniform I want with all the goodies (wooden sword, uniform, hood, boots, etc). It costs just over $100. I really want to get it, but I'm wondering if I should. It's kind of expensive, and I don't think I should wear it in public. However, I could wear it for Halloween and around the college dorm room and stuff, just for fun.

Should I get the Ninja uniform? If I get it, what do you suggest I do with it?

obviously you would use it for martial arts, and if you really want to and can put up with money w/o any struggles, then i say go for it. it can also be used as a future holloween costume if you really wanted it to! ((:

No, because ninja never wore ninja uniforms. It's actually a bunrakuka/stangehand uniform and was used in Japanese popular culture to represent a ninja character in films, etc. because that's what the theater people had on hand. Then Stephen Hayes was clueless enough to think that actual ninja dressed like puppeteers.

If ninja work ninja uniforms then everyone would know they were ninja which would kind of defeat the purpose of being a ninja. Jika-tabi weren't even invented until the 1920s.

I wouldn't...
Then again -- I'm not a student of Ninjutsu!
(I do have all of my martial arts belts on display tho'.)

You will probably only be able to wear it at the dojo (except for Halloween.)

Your "Look at me -- I'm a real ninja because I have a uniform!" will be a big fat invitation for anybody who is more proficient than you are to give you a lesson in:

"The clothes don't make the man!"

If you want a uniform, I would suggest that you only use it for display, like people who display suits of armor in the den or antique firearms on the wall.

Let it symbolize your ideal rather than wearing it as an open challenge!

Just wearing a towel on my head got me into some of the most awesome barracks fights. This one small dude was an amateur boxer from mexico....that was wild. Order your ninja uniform from www.karatedepot.com to get a low shipping cost if you can stand the 2 weeks it takes usually to get anything. The ninja uniform, I think, has merits over the keikogi but the ninja uniform doesn't breathe as well and you'll heat up very quickly. Good to get some underarmour to go with it. It makes a poor halloween costume unless you get a reflective belt with it. It's better used for when u and your buddies get drunk.

if you have the money and want the thing, buy it. If it makes you happy then do it. What harm can come from it. You and your college pals could all start some sorta ninja games at night, chase each other around and act like goof balls. Just remember one day people are going to expect you to part with childish things, don't do it. But one day you'll not have time or the desire to act as you do now. Enjoy it while you can. I say get the uniform, wear it around the dorm and act as crazy as you can, within limits of course.

Please exercise a little maturity. You are in college and you want to blow $100.00 on ninja crap??
You need to double think your priorities. Sorry, I mean not to offend. Check with your college, there is most likely a martial art club on your campus. Start there with some free basics.
Use the money you save to buy a really cool ninja video game, study more math and get ready for student loan payments right after graduation.

Call me a spoil sport but I wouldn't recommend it. For the same reason I wouldn't wear my gi and belt in the street. There will always be some nutcase who thinks it would be a great idea to see how hard they are against someone who appears to be a karate (or whatever) expert. Just asking for trouble in my opinion - or perhaps that's just where I live.

Do not buy it. That might be the geekiest thing i've ever heard. And if you do, don't wear it around the college dorms. Unless you are satisfied not getting laid.
