Anorexia is a mental disease that shows itself in the form of starving yourself, possibly binging and purging (bulimic behaviors).

People who are anorexic look at the thin person in the mirror and see fatness and ugliness. They can't help the behaviors they exhibit, because the mental strain to be "perfect" is too great.

Professional help is almost always needed to overcome true anorexia.

If you do not feel fat, or do not feel pressure to not eat or stay thin, then you are most likely just a skinny girl by nature.

Try some protein shakes to put on some pounds, because anorexic or not, you are awful thin. I wouldn't worry, though. You would know in your heart if you were anorexic. Don't let other people define you.

It does not sound like you are anorexic. When you look in the mirror, do you think you are fat? Are you trying to loose weight? Are you exercising obsessively to loose weight? If you answered no to all of these you are most likely not anorexic.

I would be more concerned about why you have no appetite, and why you have lost 5 lbs so quickly.

It could be something as simple as your body getting ready to have menstrual cycle (I loose my appetite 2 weeks my period, and then the next week I eat enough for 2 grown men). Your body could be getting ready for a growth spurt, both of my children eat less and sleep more when they are about to have a growth spurt. Yet again there could be a more serious reason.

Please talk with your parents about this and ask them to take you to your doctor. If they are unable or unwilling to do so, try talking to your school nurse or school counselor.

On a side note... I have been underweight my entire life, even after delivering 2 babies, I lost all the weight and was once again underweight. My BMI has been14 or less my whole life... I am not anorexic or bulimic.

I finally found a way to gain weight and have gained 17 lbs in the last 3 months... here is what I do:

I drink 9 glasses of water a day at room temperature. Drinking really cold drinks causes your metabolism to speed up.

I eat all organic fruits and vegetables 2 of each a day (sometimes more). Some people like me, have bodies that do not absorb nutrients very well. By eating organic you are not getting pesticides on fruits and veggies and the body can better absorb what you have feed it.

For the same malabsorption reasoning above, switch to whole grain breads.

Do not eat anything with MSG, items include: Doritos, any potato chips with flavor (BBQ, sour cream and onion, etc), Chinese food, and many many others. Learn to look for it on labels mono-sodium glutamate is it's full name. If you need a snack eat corn chips, tortilla chips, plain potato chips, pretzels, and pop corn.

Add condiments to your food, they are great extra calories.

Anorexia is characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight. People who are anorexic will intentionally restrict their calories to dangerously low numbers in order to lose weight.

If you honestly do not feel hungry, then you are not anorexic. But, if you have this loss of appetite for more than a week, I would ask your parents/doctor about it; you might be getting sick!

well it does seem un-natural for a girl who is a teenager, 5'3, and going into you womanhood to only weigh 86 pounds. you may be anorexic and not have noticed. maybe you have a distorted body image and you don't wan to eat, so not eating seems OK to you, but its not. you need three meals a day and a healthy snack in between at least 2. talk to your parents about your low weight and recent severe weight loss of 5 pounds, because your only supposed to loose 2 pounds a week. good luck.

You really should weigh more. Get with your mom and see
what you can do to gain some weight or get her to take
you to the doctor it might not be anorexia but some other
medical reason for loosing so much weight in such a
short amount of time. Good luck.

Ssmetimes your hunger can be affected by being stressed,depressed..etc. When i am sad about something i just cant eat. It doesnt mean i am anorexic. Personally i dont think u r because it doesnt seem like u are intentionally not eating. Talk to your parents and maybe go see your doctor and hopefully u will start eating again. Hope i helped :)

If you are asking people if you are anorexic then no. Anorexics tend to not talk about food/health with other people unless they are turning down food saying that they cant eat it. Anorexics only worry about gaining/losing weight and since you say you don't worry about weight then you're not anorexic. Maybe it's due to the changing weather. It's getting warmer now, and when it gets warm, my appetite goes away also. Just eat when you are hungry... and you are only 13...quit worrying about your weight.

Anorexia nervosa, if translated literally, means "loss of appetite due to nervousness". Are you stressed out over something? Is your stomach upset? Is there a deeper issue going on? If you are starving yourself on purpose in the HOPES of losing weight, then you have what they refer to as "anorexia". If you aren't doing this on purpose and you just don't feel hungry, please tell your parents and have them get you to a doctor. The more weight you lose, the less good you will feel. Don't let it get out of hand, okay? Take care of yourself.

I don't know that you are anorexic, but you are underweight for your height. You do need help. If within the last week you have not felt hungry maybe you have some kind of medical condition developing. Are you feeling depressed or do you have any other symptoms? Please talk to your parents. Have they noticed that you have not been eating within the last week? Whether they have noticed or not, please tell them that you want to see a doctor. If you would loose anymore weight you could really make yourself sick. Please get help.

Does your mom know about your situation? If she is worried about this then you should be checked with your doctor. Anorexia can be fatal because not eating can deprive the brain of necessary nutrients. As well as the heart.
