I have a friend that is Mormon and I am expecting those missionaries to show up at my door anytime, so I would like ammo ahead of time. I have looked up on the net, but not found 'alot' of issues. If you have any, please let me know. Thank you.

There are several good websites tht will give you teh false teaching of the Mormon religion. First of all they are a polytheistic religion which is not that unusual since the pagan religions of Rome and Greece were also polytheistic as well but it is not the teaching of Christ and the apostles who believed in one God in three persons as defined in the ancient creeds of the Church.

Much of their support for their religion comes from their fanciful history saying that the Church fell into apostasy immediately after the death of the last apostle St. John and was in need of restoration which was done in the nineteenth century by their prophet Joseph Smith. the problem with saying that the Church fell into apostasy is that Christ said that He created an enduring church, not one built on sand but one built on Himself as the cornerstone and the disciples as the foundation stones creating an imagery that the Church is on firm foundation with the leadership established and will be maintained untill the Parousia just as Christ promised. Christ said the "gates of hell will not prevail" and the Scriptures further state that the Church will remain the "bulwark and ground of the truth". If the Mormons are to be believed one must accept the premise of the restored Church and that Jesus lied when He made His promises about the Church which of course attacks the very foundation of Christianity and the very veracity of Christ's teaching. I pray that this gives you somewhere to start. May the Lord be with you.

In Christ
Fr. Joseph

The problem with that is that your own philosophies are not known!

If you look at the HP http://www.bythebible.page.tl/
you'll see e.g. that the condition of the dead is detailed in about 4 pages worth. Most people professing to be Christians believe that the dead aren't dead, soul, spirit.
Thus there is no real divergence from what the LDS church believes. They are all wrong, however. (Particularly the page on man's spirit is where the LDS church's teachings are variant with the Bible.

The LDS believe not in the trinity as such; still, they believe that Jesus and Jehovah is the same. That also has its page on that HP. Use the temptation and show that Jesus clearly (as well as Satan) referred to Jehovah in the third person when quoting OT scriptures. These would have had Jehovah's name in them since they were quotes from the OT.

They believe that Adam is Michael the archangel -- a strange claim. There is Biblical circumstantial evidence for Jesus being Michael in his pre-human live.

If you haven't studied the Bible much, you have a problem. The LDS missionaries are usually well studied, and always cordial.

Have a little seven up ready for them. No coffee or caffeine sodas.

Remember that verbal fights produce nothing. The truth is sown under peaceful conditions. Most of the time such conversations should be enjoyed without expectations.

James 3:18 18 Moreover, the fruit of righteousness has its seed sown under peaceful conditions for those who are making peace.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). I would not recommend finding "ammo" ahead of time.

I was a missionary and can assure you that we do not go around looking to battle with the scriptures. We share what we think is the true gospel of Jesus Christ. It is your choice to listen or not. We will certainly respect your beliefs so just be honest.

If you do not want the missionaries to come over simply tell your friend.

If you truly wish to prepare yourself, as Bryan stated, read the scriptures, pray, live in accordance to the Savior's teachings, and you will not have to worry about an encounter with the missionaries or being fooled by anyone.

Good luck. If you have any questions, let me know or visit, www.mormon.org.

First - goto allaboutgod.com, type mormon, and click enter. You will find a lot of info on their beliefs and history. By the way, mormons are great deny-ers of their past, and will always use the "that is not quite true / we know the real truth" answer.
Second - Joseph Smith was a gold-digger who died in a gun-fight. He has more in common with David Koresh & Jim Jones than Jesus.
Third - Bringham Young was a racist, and he said so, very plainly. Do you know why the mormon church changed their beliefs on this issue (within the last 30 years)? Public pressure and sports. They didn't become a "decent" NCAA basketball & football school until they "allowed" black and Samoan athletes to play.
Fourth - ask them if their God is in a physical form. They will say yes. You then ask them if he makes all the babies on the earth. They will say yes. Then ask them, if he's so busy making babies, how does he ever have time to hear our prayers?
Lastly - be nice, courteous, say thank you, and then seek the real truth about God. Good luck!

You won't find any falseness in the teachings of the Church, but I see a great deal of ignorance in some of the answers to your question. To be prepared for the missionaries I recommend the following:

- Study the teachings of Jesus Christ.
- Focus on bringing your own life into harmony with His teachings. This more than anything else will help you discern the truth.
- Read the Book of Mormon and compare its teachings with your understanding so far. You can read it on-line or request a free copy at http://www.mormon.org/freeoffers/1,17785,2071-1-1,00.html?src=tv.
- Read some credible sources for the teachings of the Church such as http://www.mormon.org. There's a great deal of misinformation available on many sites.
- Use your heart and mind together to discern truth. Using one without the other can lead to deception.
- If you believe you've discovered an, "issue," you could test it out on me through email.
- Throughout this whole process, seek answers from Heavenly Father through prayer and be open to inspiration.

Why not just tell your friend to not tell the missionaries about you? Either she/he will or won't.

If they show up, demand to know you referred them to you. If they say they were 'inspired by the lord', you tell them the same 'lord' told you to cast them out. (This may not work).

The missionary game is simply about numbers: how many can they baptize during their time in field. Some are very sincere in what they're doing, others end up in the missionary field because of parental pressure from home. In either case, these are just young teenage boys who have at least made a decision to not sell dope, or other uncivilized acts. They're basically good young men who are delivering a message that is controversial at nearly every level.

Feed 'em some pizza and pepsi (not coke) and give them the address of someone else you can't stand.

Just wanted to add we do not follow Joseph Smith, we follow Jesus' teachings and then we follow the teachings Heavenly Father has given us through prophets, like Jo Smo.
Also we believe in the Bible and the book of mormon.
Just wanted to clear those things up. I didnt read everyones answers skimmed throught the 1st few.
If you do not want to see the missionaries do not open the door or tell them to leave. If you do want tot see them and prove them right or whatever you are trying to do, instead of looking online for negative things figure things out for yourself, think for yourself. Listen to the missionaries and come up with your own thoughts.

Ask them why they get their Holy Scriptures like the "Book of Abraham" from traveling circuses instead of God. Joseph Smith purchased 2 mummies and their burial scrolls from a traveling circus in 1838. Back then nobody could read Egyptian yet and ol' Joey wanted to impress his new flock of believers . He proceeded to "Translate" the burial scrolls and the end product was the "Book of Abraham" allegedly an original document written by Father Abraham himself over 4000 years ago. Amazingly, as the current story goes, "Very well preserved and still rollable". Naturally they somehow lost it and now nobody knows where it is. But they didn't loose the burial scrolls that were also purchased with the mummies. Facsimiles of the burial scrolls were published by the church in the pearl of great price and represented to be the Book of Abraham . Undeniable proof of the prophetic power of Joseph Smith. That is, until the Rosetta Stone was discovered and Egyptian could be translated. When the Egyptologists arrived to examine the Book of Abraham papyri, they found them to be ordinary burial documents for the mummies they came with. Total Fraud. I don't know what the official church line is on this one but members claim the existence of the rollable 4000 yr scroll that is allegedly now lost.
If true, the Book of Abraham would have been the most astonishing archaeological discovery of all time. A "well preserved rollable scroll" written by Father Abraham himself over 2000 years older than the Dead Sea Scrolls. But, oops, they lost it. I suggested to one of my Mormon acquaintences that instead of going to church on Sunday we should go to the circus. The kids all agreed. I told the parents that instead of 10% of your income it would be about 25 bucks. We might even run into some new Scriptures out there for the Prophet to translate. I hear the books of Isaac and Jacob have been floating around over at Ringling Brothers.

Do you know that there is about 35,000 different versions (religouns) of Christianity? Why do you think that is? Seems to me that over the many years people have "modified" Christianity to fit their lifestyles, not their beliefs. Mormons came to my house 3 years ago and stayed for 2 hours. They talked for the first 5-10 minutes. I then, calmly and peacefully, explained to them how the division among the societies and cultures of the world are just a reflection of our religouns.

There is ZERO archaeological evidence that the Israelites ever lived in the anciant Americas. The Genetic evidence proves that Native Americans ARE NOT related to Hebrew or Middle Eastern peoples.
