my copy of windows is a valid copy that came with my pc. my auto updates are turend on but keeps comming up error when downloading

IS your Firewall software blocking access - just because auto updates is on - if your Firewall is blocking it - it won't download.

Have you also accepted the Windows Genuine Advantage software -

the file may already be downloaded but for some reason not installing, could be the file isn't all there...the program its trying to update doesn't exist or the program itself has been updated to newer version after the microsoft update was identified....if you know which update it is or the number for it yo could try searching microsoft for the standalone installation file for that update, or search for the folder where the update is and delete it then start over again.
Its also possible that your firewall is blocking the update from installing....easiest solution there is to turn off the firewall until after the update is completed.

did you download the validations thing of Microsoft run that then if that doesn't work i think you might have a copy of windows make sure your firewall isn't blocking the validation programme.
