To me the most vital thing Islam needs is some centralized authority speaking out against the acts of the radicals. Unfortunately, Islam is very non-hierarchical, so there is no central group of perceived leaders of the Islamic faith that speak with one voice and condemn the actions of the heretical.
Where is the public outcry from Islam's theologians over the acts of these radicals? It is missing in the media and the silence among the leadership and over one billion peaceable Muslims is deafening to the observers on the sidelines.
If Christian radicals were performing the acts that we see Islamic fundamentalists doing, there would be a world outcry among the leaders of Christian organizations condemning these persons as heretics. It would be in all the newspapers, television, etc.
Muslims are quick to point to the violence recorded in the Christian bible and claim that Christianity’s early history was violent, too. But unlike the Bible where some very awful HISTORY is recorded, the violence described in the Qur’an is part of Islamic THEOLOGY. This is a very significant distinction between the two belief systems.
The famous Muslim scholar and “father of modern history” Ibn Khaldun (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_Khaldun) states the dichotomy between jihad and defensive warfare thus:
In the Muslim community, the holy war [i.e. jihad] is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and the obligation to convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force... The other religious groups did not have a universal mission, and the holy war was not a religious duty for them, save only for purposes of defense... They are merely required to establish their religion among their own people. That is why the Israeilites after Moses and Joshua remained unconcerned with royal authority [e.g. a “caliphate”]. Their only concern was to establish their religion [not spread it to the nations]… But Islam is under obligation to gain power over other nations (The Muqudimmah, vol. 1 pg. 473).
I believe Islam is going through what the Christian faith went through during the Reformation. During the Reformation religious leaders were forced to carefully define their doctrines, that is, what do Christians really believe? This established a baseline of orthodoxy that then could be used as a litmus test for the practices of self-professed Christians.
Islamic leaders must do the same thing. They must reclaim the Islam now ruled by radicals who have plunged Islamic countries into the Dark Ages. New leaders must codify their acceptable theologies, giving special attention to the violence now part of the Sharia, Muhammad’s Sunna (4:24, 4:92, 8:69, 24:33, 33:21, 33:50), and the sword and anti-Christian verses of the Qur’an (e.g., 4:74, 4:91, 8:12, 9:5, 9:29, 33:35-36, 59:2). Islamic theologians must universally agree on what it means to be a True Muslim, and cast out (shun, excommunicate, etc.) those that do not. Just as Christians can readily identify the “cults” claiming to be Christian, so must Muslims be able to do once there is a defined set of core beliefs that make a Muslim a True Muslim. Then Muslim leaders should defend these theologies against heretics loudly and publicly.
I have found Islam to be philosophically indefensible, being internally incoherent or undermining human reason and experience. To better understand Islam as it is understood by others, I suggest you review the following sites:

The Quran is a wonderful book full of love and brotherhood. Some examples follow:
Death for apostasy (leaving Islam):
Sura 4:89: They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them,”
Kill unbelievers in a cruel fashion:
Sura 5:33: "Those who make war with Allah and his messenger will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. That is how they will be treated in this world, and in the next they will have an awful doom."
Slit throats of unbelievers:
Sura 47:4: Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.
Amputation for petty theft:
Sura 5:38: Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as punishment for what they have done—a deterrent from God: God is almighty and wise.
Kill unbelievers:
Sura 9:123. O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.
Don't be friends with Jews or Christians:
Sura 5:51: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your allies and protectors: They are but allies and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

To Acid: i imagine you've some issues at a loss for words. a million. useful, the OT has violent passages. yet Jesus presented humankind a sparkling Covenant with the help of the NT. A loving God and God Incarnate. there's a distinction in tone and in content textile. Why do not you quote from the NT? 2. What do you do with the violence contained in the OT: do you keep on with it or do you interpret it? Do you keep on with the violence contained in the Koran or do you interpret it? Muslims say that the Koran is the word of Allah. So, are you allowed to interpret it or no longer? 3. Do you quote from the "corrupted" Bible or from the single "inserted" into the Koran? Why at the same time as something said contained in the Bible on your dislike, makes the Bible "corrupted", and why at the same time as it truly is on your benefit or desire, it truly is no longer? 4. i idea Moses grow to be also regarded by Islam as an outstanding prophet and said as such contained in the Koran. because you're literally not allowed to interpret the Koran and for this reason attacking its prophets, how do you deal with this, stating Moses as a bloody killer?

Islam is a force that causes its followers to live under third world conditions, to blame their problems on everyone but themselves and their leaders, and to commit brutal acts of violence in order to get to heaven.

I have read many english translations of the holy quran and found that many of them are done by vested intersts who have takengreat pains to conceal the embarassin gportions of it and misguid the readers to believe tha is something very divine .The faithfull translations reveal the dark side of the the so-called holy quran. The chapters are known as Suras .The basic philosophy is based on the stories of Moses in his first book genesis .The prsophet recognizes , Abaham ,Moses and jesus but has taken upon himself the the authority of Jesus and retired him to the position of a member of the bench of the court of God .The prohet has usurped the final authority of the agent of the god saying that all he prophets sent before him by the god were ineffective and failed in their missionand sogod has chosen him tobe sent as he final authority to bring all the people in the world to him and he has also ensured that no other prophet in future would usurp his powers sayng hat ?god would not send any moe prophet and his the last and final prophet .BEcasue he has usurped the authorityof Jesus , he dis not want any one else to dislodge him in future. the efforts of some relatives of him to creae some new religion have failed also.
The Prophet married a widow of the age of his mother and inherited her properties and business empire . Because he married an old woman , he married some young girls to satisfy his lust. snce his business empire was vast and needed tobe controlled properly by ensuring that his employees do not swindle and commit fraud , he devised a mechanism by whinc he could efective ly safe guard his wealth and business assessts .The most effectie way in thiose days was to create a religion. All those who said in those days tha god or he angel of god appeard bfor him and asked him to create some religion and act as his agent ewre telling lies with a purpose . His lies were acceted and believed inby the large number of his emplyees as his wealth was enormous and his man power was tremendous .He freely used force to establish his institution. Those wer days whwn might was right .With a large army of men and enormous wealth he was able run over a large number of countries in Europe and force them to take to islam. he has wrote the Quron to suit his purpose .The sura entitled The spider , will show how the quron commands its followers to kill those who do not believe in Allah or tolevy a penalty to gi them protection .The penalty was known as jizzia , a sort of poll tax , that Aurangazeeb as the emperor of India levied on theHindus who refued to convert to Islam.
Islam is not a religon of peace .The commands of Islam are not being folowed by majority of heMuslims now-a-days as it is not easy kill people as it was possible in the past . Just because the name Islam means peace , it does not mean that the religion advocates peace . it is just like labelling a bottle of poison as honey.the peace advocated is amdist Muslims and even that is not being practiced . You see reports daily, of shiaMuslims killing the sunny Muslims and sunny Muslims killing the shia Muslims .Such eing he case the treatment of this religion of h epeople of other religons is anybody's guess.
To crown all this , the very purpose of beiliveing in Allah is really very interesting .This provided in Sura 78, entitled "AL-NABA", meaning The Announcement .In most of the trnslations byvested interests ,it is distorted omitting many specific details that the prophet has said with great elan. this chapter tells that the believer will be given 'dozens of young damsels of equal age with swellig breasts for having sex for eternity.Ths is the grnd purpose of believing in Allah and the wonderful job of Allah inheaven.Shoud people who have exhausted themselves by having sex with four wives and enough number of concubines while on earth go to heave by killing non-believers to get "dozens of young damsels of equal age and swelling breats to have sex for eternity" ?
Is there any divinity is this? This is only reflectie of the character of he person who made the quran. It is unfrtunate that a large number of people has taken to this religons wevn without knowing anything about it either due to fear / force or by chance .I think that he is no divinity in that religion and that it peracehs only violence and crude practices of based on the culture of the people of he desert.
It is their culture and those who like it take to it
It is only , when the Muslims talk tall ou her religon in comparison to others , we have to talk about with unassilable proof from ther own scriptue and from theior own acts violence practiced throughout the world .Hardly anymuslim countrydecry or condemn the acts of vilonece by the al-Quaida agains the non-muslims throughout the world .It isbeter not to raise questions about the religions as truths based on the religiopuys texts of that religion hav to be told and it might hurt the feelings of innocent muslims who do not know of them.
But we cannot hide the truths when questions abou the religion are raised .Though most of he Muslims do not follow the violent coomandof Islam , the religion as such is not one of poeace ,but of violence .This is what I think about this religion and have to sy aout if on the basis of its own scripture .
