In the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures) a Prophecy was written by a Prophet, usually in the form of an entire book.

Prophecy didn't necessarily mean foretelling the future, but was often a commentary on current, or even past, events by a 'messenger' of God.

When you reach the formation of Christianity, with their claims of fulfilled prophecy, they take a hatchet to the Hebrew Scriptures, hack it into little snippets and sentences, and then rearrange the entire thing to INVENT and, not surprisingly, DISCOVER a new, never before noticed, prophecy of their fallen political leader.

Give me a copy of War and Peace, let me use software to break it down into a database of individual sentences, and then I'll rearrange them and splice them together to predict everything from the WTC attack to Milk Duds and reality television.

Christianity reeks of desperation.

It occurs to me that Christians treat 'prophecy' like a bizarre game of Scrabble, with little tiles representing individual sentences taken from the OT Prophets.

String them together, and look at what you can invent!

stop! I'm falling in love! ;)

Totally spot on, my friend. And, there were certain criterion that a prophet had to meet to be considered a prophet.. false prophets were to be stoned to death.. even Jesus didn't meet those criteria. He did not fulfill the messianic prophecies, and yet the entire religion is based upon him allegedly doing just that.

Matthew 24:36 "no human being knows about that day or hour, no longer even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, yet in basic terms the daddy." Did this Bible verse no longer exist then? Or does the NWT no longer comprise this? the following is a extra helpful question for you, why did they ever declare or perhaps recommend to understand at the same time as the right grow to be coming? both way the Jehovah's Witnesses are pretend prophets. 1975 grow to be 70 years in the past? It grow to be even hinted about contained in the previous due ninety's also. Wow you Jehovah's Witnesses quite desire to hit upon procedures to do math. As a 9th Grader you should spend extra time on your research and a lot less on your cult.

It is true that prophets spoke of current events, warnings, etc, but how could you possibly miss fortelling future events? You must practice new ways to distort the obvious. Half of Isaiah speaks of a new age (when babies can play next to vipers and not be harmed, and so forth).

What are some of the prohecies of Christianity that you are talking about? It very easy for anyone these days to project the history they want. They can talk about the contribution of atheist towards women's suffrage and completely leave out the fact that there were Christian women leaders there also, but that is up to you. Distorting facts advantageously to support your own agenda.

Prophecy is fulfilled before our eyes as history unfolds. It cannot be denied since it is happening in world events and this is how we actully understand prophecy as we see it fulfilled. History agrees with the Bible.
Daniel the prophet interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the world empires, Nebuchadnezzar being the head of gold, then came Persia, Greece, Rome, etc.. JESUS CHRIST WAS ACTULLY THE CULMINATION OF THE HEBREW PROPHETS
He began to appear since Genesis and was actually slain before the foundation of the world because God foreknew everything and simply wrote it all down using the Hebrew nation.
The Hebrew prophets were way more than you described. They preached for men to return to God. They were called and anointed. They didn't write commentaries, they pleaded and cried for men to return to God OR ELSE.
And in their messages to their generations, they without even intending or trying to, told of a Messiah and this had to be since Messiah was promised by God since Genesis 3.15. Their message was to repent, so of course in their message was found the mind of God on how to exactly get repentance done. It could not be done without God. It had to be done by God's help since man had proved himself disobedient in Eden.
If men repented as they have been commanded to by God, there would not be a world of violence as we have today and the prophets preached for MEN TO RETURN TO GOD
Your War and peace trick was already tried by those who gave us the Bible Code. It didn't work.

Good point. In a way it's reading the tea leaves if you are pulling out slivers and ignoring the overall context....but isn't that what fundies do? Pick out the things that suit the agenda?

Maybe you should eat the Milk Duds and leave the prophecy to more learned individuals.

Well, prophecies in the Bible have come true. And this has been confirmed by historians.
