1st Century Christians ( the real Christians) died for their faith. They were burned, feed to wild animals, etc. But they held on to their beliefs?
What about you aetheists? Are you also willing to undergo torture to defend your unbelief?
Note: Please do not confuse the real 1st Century Christians w/ the Pseudo-Christians after them. The latter is guilty of too much blood shed--the tsunami in Sri Lanka and elsewhere would pale by comparison.
And, BTW, I have googled, and yahooed to search for martyred aetheist, but have found none. Some were said to be aetheists, but were really beleivers just opposed to the majority religion at that time.
So, are you willing to be the 1st real atheist to be martyred just for your belief ( non-belief really )?

rofl. You're missing the point. An Atheist doesn't care if they lie about believing in a god to save their own skins from torture and death. Its called being intelligent. Staying alive is more important than lying. And Atheists realize they only have this one life to live so they have to protect it.

While so far she has yet to be martyred, Madalyn Murray O'Hare has suffered a lot for her lack of religious conviction or conviction that religion should not be forced.
But of course in the 1st Century, many people were dying for their religious beliefs. That doesn't make them all accurate. Nero was fairly willing to kill anyone.
But for the most part, I have to say that an atheist does not long for death. Other religions that believe in an afterlife, spend the life waiting for this reward. They seem to believe life is a punishment and if you suffer enough during it, you can get an eternal reward. However, as an atheist, I enjoy life. I feel life is the reward. It is what you make out of it. I don't spend it wishing for death and therefore would not encourage some power tripping ruler to kill me so that I can be famous. Atheism just doesn't have the "conviction" that religion has.

A) This is a bad comparison. Atheists have nothing to die for. Christians believe they go to heaven.
B) People that are tortured will say anything, it doesn't matter if this is true. So, this only shows they were killed slowly rathered than tortured.
C) Atheists are supposed to go to hell...isn't that a far bigger risk?
D) You can say you believe in God, but if you don't...does it matter to God? I think not. So...an atheist might just as well lie because he's already offending God anyway.
Your question makes no sense...you should instead wonder about how far an atheist will go if something was threatened that means a lot to him/her. And I can tell you in this they are no different from anyone else.

Strange question ! Just because someone dies for their beliefs does not mean that their beliefs or the god they worship is real. No matter how strong their belief is.
To my mind the 1st century christians were deluded people, but if they wanted to be tortured or be killed to defend their beliefs, that was their choice.
Many so-called religious groups have killed themselves due to persecution as they see it......Branch Davidians, alien worshippers etc etc.
If I gave you the choice of removing your testicles or worshipping the Spaghetti monster what would you do ?
I have no god to defend.

You say you are not trying to offend, then what are you trying to do? Could you torture me into converting to Christianity? Would I say anything to avoid torture? Yes I would say anything if you were torturing me, and you would be a sick evil bastard in the name of religion.
We have all these great martyrs today blowing up them selves and others in the name of God, so don't try and claim there is something so noble in martyrdom.

answer: This assertion is fake as there are contemporary-day worshipers of the Greek and Roman Gods. additionally Islam states that they persist with the God of Abraham, like the Jews do (whether they say that Mohammed is a later prophet than those recorded contained in the Jewish Scriptures). And Christians rather say that they worship the comparable God simply by fact the Jews, whether they do no longer renowned worshiping the comparable God as Muslims.

Atheists are not extreme fanatics besides it's obvious all religions are a bunch of crap. To atheists real religious people are simply delusional sick people, hearing voices and seeing visions so it would be highly illogical to try to resist organized madness with an act of heroism.

Your question is a false dilemma and no rational person should ever sacrifice himself to disprove another's archaic obsolete superstitions. (People who use logic have long known it's impossible to prove a negative.) Perhaps you would like to have yourself nailed to a cross for the sake of your own principles?

If someone had a gun to my head and told me to state my belief in christ or I'd die, it's a very simple answer...I'd lie. My life is precious, and I'm not going to choose death. Atheism is not a cause.
