I agree with your aunt....
it says
believe, repent, be baptised,,THEN you shall be saved.

Ephesians 4:4-5 says now "there is... one baptism."
If we have both Spirit baptism and water baptism, then there are 2 baptisms.
So, which baptism is the one baptism . Which one was commanded in the great commission in Mark 16:16 and Matthew 28:18-20?
It is important to notice that Spirit baptism was a promise and never a command. It was also promised at a particular time, Jesus told his apostles, "Ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." (Acts 1:5)
Notice this was promised to a particular set of people ("ye" = the apostles) and at a particular time ("not many days hence")
This promise was fulfilled in Acts 2.
This Holy Spirit baptism was to confirm the word preached. This and the accompanying signs were to continue until "that which is perfect is come" (1 Corinthians 13:10). The word of God is called "the perfect law of liberty". (James 1:25) Those signs became no longer needed after the New Testament was completed. The word was confirmed when it was given and does not need to be confirmed again.
We see however in the New Testament that water baptism was a commandment. (Acts 10:47-48)
Water baptism was practiced (Acts 8:38), and commanded in the New Testament, therefore it was (is) the "one baptism" (Eph. 4:5)
Water baptism "now saves" like 8 souls were saved by water in the days of Noah. (1 Peter 3:20-21) It was God who saved Noah, and when we are baptized, it is God that saves us "through the ressurection of Jesus Christ".
To obey Christ, we must be baptized (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38). "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." (Hebrews 5:9)

Thank you for your question. You are really talking about several different theological issues and because of that you and your aunt may be talking past each other.
Water Baptism is a Sacrament and it is when one becomes a member of the invisible Church, receives the grace of God and receives the Holy Spirit in His life by surrendering to that Spirit in recognising the law written on their heart. The amount of water does not matter and contrary to what some may say the Greek word "Baptizmo" does not mean to immerse but to wash and this may be accomplished by pouring on the forehead or immersion, depending on the circumstances. The form is important in that one must be Baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
One can also be Baptized by desire, such as the thief on the cross where Jesus looked into His heart and saw that he was repentent and desiring to be obedient and do God's will in His life. This is not a Sacrament nor does it make one a member of the Church.
The third is the Baptism by blood where one is martyred for their faith. This is not a Sacrament and it does not make one a member of the Church.
Now I believe that what you are speaking of when you say baptism in the Holy Spirit is the gifts of the Spirit most commonly referred to as the gift of tongues or perhaps prophecy. This is a gift that is very much alive in the Church but is not given to all, although there are some Pentecostals and Charismatics will say that the gift of tongues are given to all believers using as evidence the descending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost among the believers. I think that this is an extreme view not supported by sufficient evidence to form doctrine. In fact, the history of the faithful reveals that the gifts of the Spirit have been a part of the Church since the beginning , although suppressed at times, but the gift of tongues and prophesy have not been received by all believers but to some to build up the Church which I believe is the Biblical understanding. I hope this helps and God bless.

Those in the Church of Christ do believe in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. However, they don't think that is Holy Spirit baptism. They believe that Holy Spirit baptism was always accompanied by miracles and that both were for a limited time.

Acts 2:38
38Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Mark 16:16
16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Also, in every instance in the Bible where it talks about someone being saved for savlation, it involved water baptism
Check it out for yourself, don't take my word

The C of C is trying to emulate the first century. The word for baptism means immersion and going by the example of the New Testament they were immersed into water. The act itself is a symbol. So if you feel demonstrating a symbol gets you into heaven then one must be fully immersed in water. So what about a person that misses the top of their head when being "immersed".....and those who do not have access to a large pool of water?
"It is by faith that you are saved not of works"
The lords supper is also a symbol but they do not require "wine" to be used.

I'm confused, what else would you be baptized with? Jesus was baptized by being submerged in water. We are baptized by submersion in water so that we are identified with the life, death and Resurrection of Christ. Our "old man" dies and we become a new person in Christ. We baptize with water because Christ was.
