When a person has lived properly and acted generously, he grasps the way things are. He is not dependent on attachments; he is free from anger and aversions; what he does becomes perfect action.

The pureness of perfectly balanced action based on seeing the way things are--this is freedom and the ending of ignorance.

Namaste to you as well. We are generous and intelligent when we're not too lazy. At times we prefer to be selfish and abrasive rather than kind and respectful at all times. I try, I really do. I hope that you have a good day. I will not forget your message today. I will remind myself to be nice from now on. Peace.

We as humans, see yet do not perceive correctly what it is we see. Our View is distorted by an illusory perception as your quote from the Sutta Nipata explains.

What we see in the world as selfishness and greed, ugliness and unwise Action is all due to this phenomenon of illusiory perception which causes us to chase selfishness for its own satisfaction yet never being satisfied.

Are we a generous and intelligent species, yes we are, yet we are deluded by our own perceptions of ourselves and our "self" seeing this selfishness as a means to happiness and never attaining it as a lasting thing yet always perceiving that we are happy, knowing full well that it escapes us.

Climbing out from behind the curtain of ignorance, we see and perceive the reality of our folly..we see and perceive that providing for other's happiness ignoring our own as opposed to providing for our own happiness ignoring others gives lasting Peace...

Peace from a Buddhist...

I really do not care what your holy book says so please don't quote it. It means nothing to anyone but those who believe in it therefore it is not important to anyone else.

As for whether we are generous... of course not. We are very selfish creatures by nature.

Intelligent... well intelligence seems to run in a very very small percentage of the population. I'd say that probably 99% of people on the planet are incredibly stupid and thinking with their emotions. There's a reason the term "sheeple" was invented. Because most people lead themselves like lambs to the slaughter. I think most of them would stand out in a nuclear blast if some religious leader told them they saw the image of Jesus in it.

I think we are both generous and intelligent. Just take a look at Yahoo! Answers where we have come together as a community of strangers to take the time to ask and answer everything from the trivial to the complex.

We can be but it seems to me that most of the time people only act that way when they think they have something to gain from it.

Humans are not always generous but yes we are very intelligent species. At least that is what I think. We have progressed so much since evolution and are very smart. That is at least what I think.

Oddly enough, I persist in that belief.

Perhaps it's the Pollyanna in me? ☺

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

We worship an unseen god, we still have inequality between races and sexes, we cannot have peace anywhere in the world (almost entirely due to 'religion') and you somehow think we are ending ignorance....

how ignorant!
