When you sleep on your stomach you are hyperextending your back and compressing structures of the spine that cause some pain and discomfort, plus your abs are not working that usually support your spine instead of your back muscles overworking themselves. Solution: if its hard for you to sleep on your back put a pillow under your tummy to keep you in more flexed position or try sleeping sideways with good back alignment. Good luck

Even though you may like sleeping on your stomach, it's very bad for the back muscles. For hours at a time your back muscles are being pulled by the weight of your body that's why you're experiencing so much pain. I had to train myself how to sleep on my back. This is really what you need to do is start learning how to sleep on your back, it's the healthiest position for your spine . It's going to take time , but it's going to relieve the constant pain.

A good massage therapist can help you feel better with a regular treatment of massages. Also if you feel you're not getting better after sleeping on your back you may want to see a chiropractor. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.

First of all, I would need to know more about your mattress, because an old or too soft mattress can cause that problem.

You should have a firm mattress.

I used to sleep on my stomach all the time, and my back hurt from it. I got a firmer mattress and that helped alot.

Check out your mattress.

It may be your sleeping position, sleeping on your tummy isn't good for your back, so you might want to start sleeping on your back.

Sleeping on your tummy hyper-extends your back, and can cause a lot of pain. You should go and see a chiropractor, to be adjusted, that will make your back better.

I had abdominal surgery and couldn't sleep on my tummy, so I pushed my bed up against the wall, and layed on my back and bent my knees and leaned them on the wall, and after a few nights, I could sleep on my back easier.

I really liked sleeping on my stomach though, so once the pain wasn't so bad, I put a pillow under my tummy, and it takes all of the pressure off of your back, and I didn't have any back pain again.

I would also try sleeping on your side in the prone position, it's better on your back than sleeping on your tummy.

I would try to train yourself to sleep on your back.

Good Luck!!

if you don't have back pain when you stand but you do have it when you lie down and sleep on your back thenit could be your blood circulation.

Depending on how your back is position on your bed you could be cutting the circulation from your legs to your back and that is why you are having back pain. Your legs have the biggest muscles and they carry and hold most of the blood.

I have the same problem. When my quads (front thigh muscles) don't get enough blood to them i get lower back pain. I haven't had them in a while since I started a new exercised program and some stretching. But It would be hard to say for you because I dont know your body shape and size the condition of your bed. I've tried everything on from sleeping on ythe floor or on a piece of plywood but then I later realized it was my blood flow. When I slept on my back it cut the blood flow from my legs to my back and that's how i got back pain.

If you have not damaged your back in anyway from an injury but you get it when you lie down then it is a circulation problem. Find a way to sleep on your back thatn doesn't cut the circulation from your legs to your back. Maybe you can elevate your legs a bit with a pillow.

I agree with the first answer. I've suffered from back problems for years. I frequently sleep on my stomach...Doctor said that is the worse way to sleep for back muscles and abdominal muscles. I don't know you but you know the answer to this...are your abdominal muscles weak? I bet your answer is yes.
