1-remove yourself from that situation (turn off tv, walk away from the people you are tempted by at the moment, etc)
2- find an accountability partner...someone who is a Christian who you can trust to not only keep your life confidential, but will support you thru prayer and as somone you can call when the temptation gets too strong
3-pray that God will remove the desire to do whatever that sin is...
find scripture that will back up why you shouldnt do whatever the sin is that is pulling you.... and memorize it... and call upon that and Jesus to carry you thru those times as well

When temptation knocks on the door, I ask Jesus to answer it. He has promised to always be their.
1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
You must also always be prepared for the enemy. He knows when you are at your weakest. Be careful not to get too tired, angry, hungry or stressed.

The "first aid" thing to do is to do your best to avoid the situation in which you are tempted. Why subject yourself to that sort of difficulty as well as risk of doing something wrong and most likely harmful to someone?
As a longer term solution, try and work out what's bringing about that temptation and try and change things in your life to eliminate or reduce the problem.
Above all, don't fool around with it. Sin is so serious, Jesus was crucified to save us from our sins.

When I have a temptation to "sin", I look at several factors, such as "will it hurt someone", "is it worth it", "can I afford it", etc. Then I make my decision based upon that. Keep in mind, that I don't believe that sin is any more than an invention of man, so I don't consider whether or not I will fry in Hell for committing that "sin".

Depends on the sin!
All too often I give into it, even knowing that God promises to provide a way out, and even knowing that he can "cleanse us from unrighteousness."
To me, it's sort of like layers of sin....no sooner does God heal me or remove something bad from my life, that I notice a whole other big area of sin that I never even paid attention to.
I try to think of it as an ongoing process. But I do talk to Him a lot about it.
I am so grateful for his mercy which is "brand new every morning." Sure do need it!
Edit: Uncle Meat, you are too funny---had to add you to my contacts!
OOPS....chatting. Please forgive me, dear Y!A people.

Remember the fear of disappointing God. Not the consequences of the sin, but idea that I would let God down. What can be worse than that!

I think about who I am what I stand for then I think to myself is 10 minutes pleasure worth a life of guilt and punishment. Then I choose where I want to be and where I stand. The devil is never worth all that.

Seek Help, if the problem is too big for others to help then find how to break the bondage your in for your self. Quote verses to yourself and immerse yourself in scripture. Seek God. Pray alot until you cant pray anymore.
