Well I have to contend with you it is a lot to work through. The church does keep the most important concepts hidden from the public- but much of it is metaphorical anyway so you have to look at what's happening based upon the times. So yes, it is very much historical. There is more evidence that Jesus existed then Ceaser or Mark Anthony.
- There's a difference between following major themes and believing that everything Jesus did was factual. For example, thousands of religions around the world talk of a major flood occuring some time in the last 10,000 yrs. The bible talks about foregoing the eating of meat when Taoists + Hindu's believe the cow should be protected as sacred. The bible, Riga Vedha, Mayans, Chinese, Indians, Egyptians Indonesians, Australians and Native Americans believe in an ancient race of star people or Elohim who came to direct mankind eons ago. Why do you think christians place ashes, and Hindu's use a red dot when the new age speaks of a third eye centered on the forhead?
- Personally, I believe very much in what Jesus was able to accomplish but I won't go into that becuase only seeing will make anyone truly believe. I learned that around 28,000 years ago the star known as Vega gave off a minor super nova. Radiation from the blast reached Earth around 8 to 12,000 thous. years ago, possibly about the time of Cain after the fall. If the bible tells us that life spans really were 6 or 800 years long, then the radiation from that star would certainly have reduced our life spans by 75%. Did you know that?
Who say's Harry Potter isn't real? Not that I believe in him, but if someone out there does, then to me it deserves to be recognized. As a buddhist, truth comes from within and not necessarily from without. In the end, you are what you believe.

Okay. Let's say I want to deceive a whole bunch of people into thinking my religion is the real one. What is the most logical thing I would do? I would try to make all of the stories and main characters as upright, heroic and believable as possible. I would take a very popular principle, (like worldwide unity), and make it my main theme. Have you read the Bible lately? Moses was a murderer who then became a prince in the very country where he committed homicide. What?! David was the king of Israel who took another man's wife, got her pregnant, and then compounded the matter by committing murder to cover it up. Are you kidding!? Jesus' mother never had sex before he was born. He raised a couple of people from the dead. He raised himself from the dead. Come on. Noah took two of every, (every) animal on earth into a boat to preserve each of the species. Gimme a break! Ever tried to load a bengal tiger onto anything? But why, if I were trying to convince you that my religion was the real McCoy, that there is no other way, would I put in such fantastic tales? And why do so many people still believe? Those are answers you are going to have to come up with yourself, sir.

It sounds 'stupid' to you.
Upon first reading, some things are difficult to grasp.
However, there is an opportunity to show we are students of the Bible, not simply scanners.
Dig. Do research, study and that which seems odd, becomes clear.
Isaiah 40:22 refers to the planet as being circular. That was 800 B.C.
Job 26:7 refers to the earth hanging on nothing. That was 1500 B.C.
These facts were questionned for centuries. People laughed at the very idea. They said it was 'stupid'.
What has proven factual?

Sigh... it has nothing to do with "brainwashing," "control conspiracies of the church," or "indoctrination". It has everything to do with the fact that *all* mythology has historical facts imbedded in them. Not just the bible. Sometimes it is just hard to separate out what is "fact" and what is "fiction".
However, one way to attempt to do this is to read mythology from different cultures... for example, almost every culture in the world has flood stories. Could this just be coincidence? I think not... there have probably been more than one flood in the history of the earth of the magnitude proportions all these myths talk about actually, because of tectonic plates clashing and parting over and over. The Rocky Mountains are a good example of that... they have formed and dissolved themselves *3 times* in the history of the earth, did you know that? Each time they move apart, the ocean moves in... realistically, this would have been a *major* flood. There are Native American myths that talk about this. In detail.
Well, it works the same way for Middle Eastern myths preserved in the bible.
The issue here is not whether something is "true" or not, but whether a person is going to literalize and generalize "everything"... myths are not meant to be used that way. For example, to literally insist that *everything* in mythology is "far fetched" is generalizing to "stupidity".
[EDITED to express what I finally realized what is *really* bothering me about your question]
The bible, Native American creation stories, Celtic faerie lore, etc., are *mythologies*.
Harry Potter, The Davinci Code, Shirlock Holmes, and the movie Aliens are *stories*, NOT myths.
It is good to discern differences.

that is a question that has, and could continually be, debatable. those who believe interior the Bible will inform you that that is an situation of religion. Nonbelievers will continually be able to argue that it may be proved that that's basically a e book written through adult males and only a fantasy. if you're a nonbeliever then you truly believe interior the those that 'instruct you actually' that there is not any God and Jesus under no circumstances existed. Christians who do be counted on God and the Bible may also argue that there is data. i discussed that you probably did no longer have any web pages listed that help Christianity. That leads me to believe that you at the instantaneous are not extremely attracted to finding out the fact yet in simple terms attempting to initiate an situation. all of us has he accurate to believe what they want to. which include you, ye of little faith. i did not record them as you've faith on your beliefs ( or non beliefs because the case might want to be) Have a constructive day!

Because they believe it's the word of God whereas Harry Potter is not the word of God...i'm not a christian myself and i do not believe any of the miracles that have been described...i mean if miracles happened so commonly those days, why doesn't a SINGLE "miracle" occur now? but people have their own right to believe whatever the want and
i usually don't get in to arguments unless provoked..what i can't stand is when someone goes on and on about how i'm going to end up in hell...i mean what's their problem anyway....but then they say that they try so hard to convert because they care about me which i find hard to believe because more often than not that person is totally rude and obnoxious to me in day to day life!!

The flood has been shown to be authentic, Jesus' prophecies were authentic, most agree that much of the history of the Hebrew people were accurate, most agree that there was a man named Jesus. Also the Acts of the Apostles is accurate.
As for the miracles and divine events, that is a matter of faith, and they can never be proven or disproven using archeology.

It's a thing called "faith". People that believe, teach that faith to their children. They teach it to their children, etc. Folks go to church, mass, etc. and the minister/priest sermonizes from that very book and preaches about "faith". Many are afraid that if they don't have that "faith", they will face eternal damnation and hellfire. It's a simple act of faith to believe in the bible.
However, I personally feel that there are far fewer people that believe than actually "say" they believe. If they really believed the bible, every one of those believers would be in church regularly.
I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that made me smile. "If your faith can get you to heaven, why can't it get you to church?"

Like the people who have not enough brains to understand and accept that each and everyone of us has the right to believe whatever we want. That's how stupid it sounds.
