Men are simple beings. If you tell them to bolt they assume you mean it and walk. Even if they still want you their ego gets in the way. Life doesn't work like a romantic comedy where the guy will follow you til the ends of the earth and take you in his arms. If you want back with him be upfront with him. Worst thing that can happen is he says no thanks and you are no worse off than you are now. Best case scenario you end up back together. Honesty is always the best policy.

I have that situation today. I broke up with her because she couldn't give me what I needed, and it broke my heart every day. I won't get back with her because she'll never change, and I could never be just her friend.
