We've just come back from a holiday of a lifetime in Australia and I would say the best thing about it is absolutely everything, the people are wonderful and so laid back, we were in Cairns, Sydney and Melbourne and loved all 3 places, if I was younger it would be Sydney to move to for me, check out some web sites and see what you think its a brilliant place and I so hope you get to go there soon.

Australians always pull together in times of tragedy ie natural disasters, man made disasters. We are a very generous people with our time and finances in these types of situations. We always look after our mates. Mateship is a very big part of the Australian culture. Also it is the freedom to be whoever you want to be. No judgement.
As far as recommending where to live, I would say anywhere about 1-1.5 hours north of any major city. There are some great places that are cheaper, less busy, but still close enough to work and visit in the bigger cities. For example, Central Coast NSW and Sunshine Coast QLD.

I don't live there BUT I want to live there!!!
Went to Australia and visited Sydney, Melbourne, Ayers Rock, Brisbane and Cairns and fell in love with it all.
I loved the Aussie people...so laid back and relaxed and so proud of their country. I would love to feel that way.
Also the varying landscapes were so diverse with the ruggedness of the outback....the crystal clear ocean of the Barrier Reef, unspoilt beaches, fantastic wildlife. Loved Steve Irwin's Zoo.
I would choose to live in Queensland for the warmer tropical climate.
Also i love the Aussie style houses....so spacious. Just imagine getting up Christmas morning in Oz and being able to have a BBQ and a swim in the sea!!!!

Best about Australia: the people (laid back), the weather (it permits an outdoor sort of life), the egalitarian multi-ethnic society where everyone's Australian, the variety of foods in the shops everywhere, the job opportunities.
To live: Queensland: Gold Coast, Barrier Reef, tropical forest, huge interior plains, mountains - and Brisbane is a great city! Much more interesting and upcoming to live in than Sydney or Melbourne.
But agreed - Hillsong Church would be a bonus, if there is one in Brisbane!
-
PS - Hi xXxKAY - Thanks for the info. Many moons ago I was a very young, lost and lonely immigrant in Brisbane, with things taking a bad downward spiral. But Jesus came into my life through a church someone invited me to, and "old things passed away and everything became new", as the Bible puts it. So for me, Brisbane still feels like the Gateway to Heaven.
John (questioner) - I like the photo of you in scuba gear on your website. Would recognise you anywhere from that! Great fish to see on the Barrier Reef - Queensland has to be best for you!

doug sounds like he is from NZ dont listen to him - he always has negative comments
best of australia we are friendly, happy go lucky, down to earth, multi cultural, love the great outdoors ie: bbqs, picnics, sport, swim, surf, fish - the weather is beautiful one day perfect the next especially in Qld
we are experiencing a bit of a drought at present in most states - bring the rain with you when you come
forget about living in the cities - too chaotic, too noisy, too polluted, not enough drinking water
move to the country towns - more laid back lifestyles and plenty of room to move

The laid back lifestyle. I would live in Melbourne if I was to emigrate there because of the cooler climate it has and the city has alot of charm and great amenities. It is also a little cheaper than Sydney.

The best thing is the amount of space. Very peaceful, beautiful scenery. Unusual wildlife.
Victoria is the green state & is probably closest in climate to UK if a little warmer. Rains almost every day but really warm rain - really pelts down but only last minutes & dries up in minutes.
Very friendly people everywhere.

The Blue Mountains. Nothing beats the scenery and the loads of adventure you can take there. They say it's also growing popular to be a preferred wedding/honeymoon destination spot.
