Shintoism is the main faith, and only indiginous religion,

It translates to "the way of the gods" and is the worship of spirits that take the form of trees, the wind, rain, mountains etc

Buddhism is the other major religion, was introduced in the 6th century

Though major is a misnomer as religion plays very little part in every day japanese life

Japan is more or less a Buddhist country....but don't confuse worshipping with having a belief in God...Buddhism is an atheistic religion.we do not "pray for our sins to be forgiven" and neither do Buddhists thinkthat anybody is "watching over" us..

the Buddhist worship consists of reminding ourselves of his TEACHINGS-his teachings are the most important thing...

All people who worship, worship God. By definition.

If you are asking about how diversely one culture expresses their religious mode... Variety of links below. The last one references a Statistical Survey on Religion conducted annually in Japan since 1949. :) This is published in the annual JAPAN STATISTICAL YEARBOOK (specifically chapter 23 on Culture) which appears NOT to be available online
