if you think of a cup being half full then you are an optimistic person or someone thats sees things in a positive way.
if you see the cup as half empty then it is just the opposite.

It describes how one tends to view life.
If you consider the cup half empty it means that you tend to see things in life negatively. You are a pessimist
If you consider the cup half full it means that you tend to see things in life positively. You are an optimist.

The question/sign could also read-
Are you a pessimist or optimist?

Half full: positive
Half empty: negative

How do you view life?
If you see it as half empty, you are probably sad that it is not full.
