First of all, the Iraqis (and others in the Middle East) do spell "Iraq" as "Irak". It's a phonetic depiction of the real Arabic, after all. Most English depictions of the name of other countries (Sweden, Japan, Germany) have minimal correlation to their real names (Konungariket Sverige, Nihon or Nippon, Bundesrepublik Deutschland).

Second of all, repression under Saddam was actually less destabilizing than the current impasse, where over 2 million displaced refugees seek to survive, and something like a 100 a day are killed in sectarian violence. The problem was in demiitarizing all of Iraq without having sufficient troops in place to fill the security vacuum, and nail down all the weapons caches.

Third of all, history will probably regard the current C-in-C less kindly than Nixon or LBJ when it comes to running a war, and certainly regard the roster of aides (Bolton, Feith, Wolfowitz et al) with somethig less than kindness.

However, the current strife and killing is out of the control of American troops or people, so asking "good American people" to do anything is pointless. Iraqis are killing Iraqis at a pace beyond anyone's abilty to control other than the Iraqis themselves. Stop blaming just the Americans for everything.

As soon as the suicide bombings, the senseless killing of Iraqi civilians, and the insurgency stop. Until the Iraqi people decide to help themselves and take up arms instead of running away and expecting others to fight for them. We are trying every day to make Iraq a safer place to live but the muslim extremists seem to think that a total war zone is better than peace. We will not leave until the job is done, so why don't you tell all your buddies who are packing the RPG's and making the roadside boobie traps that it's not going to stop until they stop. We will stay until the job is done. If we pull out early, all the people who have died, american and otherwise, have died for no reason. Just for a walk through the desert. And it will tell our real enemies that if they hold out long enough we will just pack up and go home.

The American people ARE trying to stop the fruitless war in Iraq but the Iraqi insurgents aren't listening.

When they decide to quit killing each other, this war will be over. It's not the Americans who are doing the killing. It's the Iraqis.

You should be taking your question to Sadr.

As soon as the good Muslim people stop the radical extremist from blowing up innocent Iraqi people. take responsibility for your own actions and quit justifying the killings by blaming the Americans. If you want peace get rid of your radical extremist. That is unless you think killing innocent people by blowing them up in Mosques and markets while they try to have a normal life is good.

we are no longer conducting a war in iraq. however, we have a responsibility to see that the country isn't overrun by the insurgents.

sorry, but the truth is that at this point, the government of iraq is under attack by outside and internal forces - not the US.

just as soon as liberal extremists like you get out of the way and allow the generals and the people who understand al qaeda the ability to do their jobs and win this war.
