I think it's a stage one goes through, in most cases an early stage or a place to hide from fears. True education takes courage. Fear is the easiest emotion to generate. Fundamentalism is an immature state of mind. The dictionary basically defines it as, interpreting a sacred text in an absolute literal way. Additionally, intolerance of opposing views. It was first used to describe a movement in American Protestantism that arose in the early part of the 20th century in reaction to modernism and that stresses the infallibility of the Bible not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record.

Hmmm, good question, I wonder if it is also a coincidence that where you have the most intolerance, not only do you have the most fundamentalists, but also the most white supremists. Are they possibly related??
Either way it is a bad thing.

Jesus said that man was not made for the Sabbath, but the Sabbath was made for man,so I think that the problems arise when people have no flexibility and become rigid and regimental with the Bible, the word of God was never meant to be a strait jacket it was meant to free us not bind us, fundamentalists need to come back from the rigid Pharisee rmentality.

Fundamentalist, pretty much by definition, means intolerant.

Actually I disagree.

I assume you mean christian fundamentalists, so I will based my answer on this assumption.

I believe the most fanatical and abusive answers do not come from fundamentalist christians, but from christians who are fighting to hold onto their faith because they have received a reasonable level of education and have started to doubt key elements of the Paul of Tarsus New testament stories are true.

Fundamentalist christians don't need to get onto the internet. Their faith is rock solid, no doubt.

Whereas people who are struggling to hold all the falling pieces together lash out at atheists and others who are contributing to the doubt.

I'm guessing you're probably intolerant of fundamentalists so this is probably pretty ironic.

Just chill.

No. They pretty much admit their intolerance.

No, what's more peculiar is the feigned tolerance of those who preach tolerance, yet are so intolerant themselves.

It sounds that your own intolerance is for fundamentalists.

You are judging them all.
