Does the belt tension have anything to do with this wobbling? Thanks.

Replace the idler pully, and both belts ASAP. Before you go too hardcore on it, order the tensioners aswell because in my experiance, a vehicle that old has a tendancy to break the adjustment bolts from rust.

And replace the two belts at this time I reccomend the Nissan Belts and Idler pulley.
