I don’t know anything about Switzerland but I am interested to go there. What do I have to know about Basel? What can I do there?

If you go to the tourist information office (which is on the edge of the market place) you can get a portable audio guide which leads you on walks through the town and gives you a wonderful history of the town, and various events. It points out interesting things like the face that pokes its tongue out to the residents across the river or who it is slaying the dragon on the facade of the Munster. A fabulous place to visit!

Well the old city is nice with the famous Rhine streaming thru. There is a lovely Zoo and Basel is the "home" to many International known Pharma Co. You can also quick go over the border to the charming Alsace in France.

Basel's best tourist attractions are in Germany and France. Get across those borders and check out the real Europe.

They have some great museums and a cool boat-on-a-rope that takes you across the Rhine. If you stay in a hotel in the city, they'll give you a pass that's valid on all the trams and buses in the city, which is a good deal! (I believe it's included in the tourist tax you have to pay to stay there (the tax goes for all of Switzerland)).
