No, when you receive Jesus as your Savior, at that moment the Holy Spirit baptizes you into the Body of Christ, His Church. You receive the Holy Spirit at that moment and It never leaves you. The gift of tongues is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit which not everyone have. It is AN evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, not THE evidence.

Absolutely not. I am a firm believer that the gift of tongues is no longer for today. But even if it was, there's absolutely no support in Scripture that you wouldn't be saved if you haven't received it. The Bible clearly states that the only requirement for salvation is that you repent and believe in the name of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9). If you add anything to God's free gift of salvation, then you're preaching a works-based salvation, which is a futile and false salvation. There's nothing we can do to be saved, not even speaking in tongues.

Besides, people received the Holy Spirit before the gift of tongues ever came down from Heaven (for instance, Zachariah -- see Luke 1:67). The angel told Mary that Jesus would have the Holy Spirit even from birth (see Luke 1:15). Jesus never spoke in tongues. So as you see, tongues is not required upon receiving the Holy Spirit, and as I stated, is not even for today. It was only as a sign that what the disciples were being preached came directly from God.

So fear not! If you truly repented in your heart of your sins and you're serious about living a life pleasing to God, then rest assured you are saved. :)

There are 2 colleges of thought in this undertaking. The charismatic Christians believe that the filling of the Holy Spirit is given at it sluggish after salvation. The extra prevalent thinking between Christians is that when you receive Jesus as your savior, you receive at that element, the religious presents of the Holy Spirit. The religious presents of the Holy Spirit as spelled out interior the Bible are, talking in tongues, casting out demons, dealing with serpents and eating deadly poison that may not harm them. The scripture for it incredibly is Mark sixteen:17-18 Many as we communicate declare to have the means to communicate in tongues, some even handle snakes, yet i'm yet to income of any that drink the deadly poison with out deadly outcomes. healing is likewise a contemporary of the Holy spirit. some believers think of that those particular presents have been given at a definite time to end a definite adventure. As a Christian, I even have in no way completed any of the failings indexed, yet i will keep an open ideas approximately those presents. If God feels that i want any of those presents to be a extra perfect Christian, i'm valuable he will see that i'm getting them.

I believe what Rev R said.

There are many gifts of the Holy Ghost tongue is only part of it.

I know people who only focus on this. That is misleading. You know yourself that something was different about you when you repented. You felt that change. Jesus Christ came into you at that moment.

What ever you do don't fake it like so many of the modern day church world is doing. That is non-sense gibberish.
Tongues is unknown to the speaker but it is the Holy Ghost speaking for you.

I myself received other gifts before tongues. But the tongues later came, and only during prayer and sincere worship.

I know a man who says "Don't worry about it. When you buy shoes the tongues will come with them.".

Keep seeking and they will come. It may take time, years in some cases. But don't worry about the tongues when you pray keep your mind on Jesus. Worrying is a distraction while you are praying.

I received the Holy Ghost and have spoken in tongues ever since. It's not silly gibberish, and it is sinful to say that it is. If you did receive the Holy Ghost, then you will speak in other tongues. It may be a matter of when you are at a comfort level of being able to let it all go... In every instance in the Bible, when someone received the Holy Ghost, they spoke in other tongues. It is a prayer language - a private prayer language, for the most part not to be used in front of others, it's just between you and God. It is a beautiful and miraculous thing, and I believe you will speak in other tongues because you are apparently hungry. God will fill.
Sending Love Your Way....

Depends on what you believe I guess.

I believe that when you receive the gift of the Holy Ghost you will speak with other tongues.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

People that use the "tongues is not for today" argument need to read Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

The Holy Ghost is the gift. Speaking in tongues is the evidence of receiving this gift. If you did not speak in tongues, you did not receive the Holy Ghost.
Study your Bible. See if you can find an account of anyone receiving the Holy Ghost, where they did not speak in tongues. (You won't find one)
There is also a gift of tongues. That's something different though. It's one of the gifts of the spirit. It's when GOD delivers a message through someone, in tongues. This is followed by someone who has the gift of interpretation, interrupting the message.

There is a "gift" of tongues but there are also several other gifts for example interpreting the gift of tongues.

Paul teaches us that we should pray for one or more of these gifts.

And on top of that, Tongues should never be used in public if there is no interpreter.

The Holy Spirit is NOT a gift! When you believe and are baptised The Holy Spirit becomes your guide and lives inside of you....

And remember the Holy Spirit *Never*, *Never*, *Ever* causes you to be out of control or not know what you are doing, if you run across that, get out and find another Church.

If you want the gift of tongues then pray for it, I was in the Ministry about 20 years before my prayer was answered in the positive and I was and have been alone in prayer every time it has occured, never out of control, always knew what I was doing.

Please over look those who are denouncing the gifts of the holy spirit. There are many liers in the body of Christ today as decieved as ever about the gifts. These are not of Christ! Clouds with out rain! No truth is found in them. Unloving, unworthy, unholy and unwise. These are those sown by satan in the Lords field. Do not lisen to them!

At the time of salvation God had delivered into you hands the keys to every gift in the kingdom. At salvaitont the Holy Spirit brings to you the spirit of Christ and he seals you into Christ by the new birth. In that moment your spirit and his spirit become come one spirit. You are thus made a new creature in Christ Jesus. When God looks at you he sees the light of Christ shining with you.
That is salvaiton. From that moment on you are in the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit walks beside you at this time. Jesus said this in his word "if you will ask me i will ask the father and he will send you the confortor." ( Holy Spirit ) this is speaking about the enfilling of the Holy Spirit.
He is who empowers a christian with understaning and power he leads us into truth and the fullness of understaning.
You question about tounges is a good question. All the gifts are still in full effect. Only not all are worthy of the gifts and not all will recieve them. If your denouncing the gifts of God then i will assure you God is not going to give you a single one. Because you are calling God a lier in denouncing the gifts. Just like the baptist that declare there are no apostles and no prophets today. You will notice there are not real preachers in the baptist and no power in there chruches either. God does not reward the mockers of his kingdom and he does not reward people who call him a lier.
You gift was sent even before you ask in faith for the Gift of tongues. The time of it being fully manefest is the only concern. Different gifts come at different times. You may get it next week or 10 years down the road. That is the way it works. We some times desire things that we want but God will give you what you need in the time you need it. Some time we think we need that right now. But God may be saying i will send it on the slow boat because he sees the road ahead. And not every one gets tongues at the time of asking.
This is a miner gift, Yeat it is also a power one. Ask Jessu why you have not recieved your gift of tongues as of yeat. He speaks to us you know. Also i want to make it clear also that i had the gift of tongues from months before i begain to speak in the tongues. And it is very real and i conduct warfare in tongues. But then again i am a prophet. Those prophets you read about in the old testiments all spoke in tongues.
May the Lord Jesus and our Father bless you greatly and multiply your gifts and wisdom and love.

no, you can certainly have the Holy Spirit in you, and not have the gift of tongues. Tongues is a real gift--but not everyone has it. I dont, but I know I have the Holy Spirit in me. I'm not clear about why some people have it and some dont, but I think you still have the possibility of getting it--God just hasn't shown you yet. At least, that's how I look at it.
