Definitely. Not only will it dictate where you'll have your ceremony held (especially if its an outdoor wedding - many sites have caps on the numbers of people attending or break the prices down by the number of attendees), but how much you'll need to pay for various services.

Also, knowing how many people are coming will dictate how much food you'll need, how much to spend on beverages (depending on the type of beverage service you'll have), type and size of dance floor (if one is being assembled on-site), how big a cake you'll need, and how many hotel rooms you will need for out-of-town guests, just to name a few BIG reasons.

Knowing your numbers is an absolute MUST, especially if you're working within a very tight budget.

Yes, even though many people will RSVP but not show up, and people will show up who didn't RSVP. You will need a final count for caterers and for table set ups. Also some venues will charge per person attending the reception, so keep that in mind, as well as having the appropriate number of favors, if you are offering those to your guests. You don't want to have too few, but you don't want too many either. (waste of money)

Yes! You will always have people who want to just "show up". But luckily some people who RSVPed will not be able to make it. I assume you are having some sort of food and will need to account for how much you need as well as seating for attendees. If you have a reception after the wedding -- will everyone be invited? Sometimes this piece is pricy or the space is limited so some weddings do not invite everyone. This seems sort of tacky so spend what you can afford to (without breaking your bank) . . . and let everyone celebrate this happy day with you! Good luck!

depends

if it's a casual wedding with open catering (when guest are buying their own) then why bother with rsvps?

if you'd like the numbers for the caterer, then yes.

i'd like RSVPs anyway because then if someone can't make it, you'll be able to deal with those feeling BEFORE the day. Otherwise you'd find out on your wedding day, and it could upset you.
eg. grannie not being there because she can't afford to travel. you'd be able to fix up that dilemma before the big day and ensure grannie can be there.

RSVP is a very good technique when it comes to save some money. 80% of weddings I've attended RSVP was required. You can't go wrong...

Yes. It's very helpful to get a realistic estimate of how many people there will be at the wedding. It's good to know this for catering purposes, banquet hall rentals, seating, etc. It's always good to try and make sure that your wedding day has no unexpected surprises for you or your guests. Congratulations and good luck!

Definately, especially if you are planning on having a reception afterward. You would usually invite the guests to the reception that you invited to the wedding. You need to know how many people to prepare refreshments for. This is especially true if you are having it catered.

I would just because for the food you are going to want to know and you cant just assume some things come up.

Yes, how else are you going to figure out the final count for the caterer, the chairs, table settings, favors, etc....
