2. In accordance with virtue or morality: a righteous judgment.

Christians must abandon willful sin! If not there is no salvation!

Before baptism, the Christian repents, turns around from his former lifestyle, and starts producing good works of repentance.

After his baptism, in symbol of his dedication to God, he keeps to leading a holy and pure life (otherwise eternal damnation if practicing sin).
Thus through the baptism, through the ransom -- Paul states this:(YLT)
1 Corinthians 6:11 . 11And certain of you were these! but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were declared righteous, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God.

Galatians 3:24 24so that the law became our child-conductor--to Christ, that by faith we may be declared righteous,

Hebrews 10:26-27 For we--wilfully sinning after the receiving the full knowledge of the truth--no more for sins doth there remain a sacrifice, 27but a certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery zeal, about to devour the opposers;

James 2:24,25 Ye see, then, that out of works is man declared righteous, and not out of faith only; 25and in like manner also Rahab the harlot--was she not out of works declared righteous, having received the messengers, and by another way having sent forth?
