no - it makes your belly look bigger - you build more muscle underneath the fat which is not going anywhere without cardio.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.

Along with your sit ups you should also do back bends otherwise you push all of that area forward so it will not look as if it is working. I hope I explained that okay. In otherwords, you will gain muscle instead of slimming down. For energy and to help with weight loss: 2 tbls. of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before a meal. Heinz vinegar has 93 vitamins and minerals and will make you feel so good.

Sit ups??? Sit ups don't really help that much in losing weight. They are good to use with cardio though. Cardio exercises will help you lose the weight and make you look leaner. Cardio exercises include: running, jogging, biking, or boxing. Stay on a healthy diet and use sit ups only as a complement to your cardio exercises.

Increased muscle mass should increase your metabolism, which in turn should result in some weight loss.

In order to lose weight you should probably engage in both cardio exercises and weight training, keeping in mind any restrictions set by your health-care professional.
