Why ? Well, that IS "The question"... which officers supressed the facts in favor of a fictional Silver Star narrative.

I've seen and read MANY stories throughout the history of the military where the circumstances of a death is "modified" to protect the parents or the military.

We had a kid die on 13 April 1990... because he was hungover and fell infront of a rolling helicopter. But the official report made NO mention of this.

Because the truth really sucked. A brave American who really believed in sacrificing for his country ends up shot by his own guys.

War is not pretty and most Americans don't really want to know that. So the government assumes that all of us want to be lied to and just hear the brave and noble stuff.

Everyone can't be a hero, because if they are, then what really is a hero???

Because the military wanted to make it look like a justifiable war, because the military would have took a hit on recruiting, or because they wanted not only Tillman, but also Lynch, to look like heroes. I really don't know.

All I know is this: It was dumb for the military to do that. If Tillman accidently stepped on a landmine, it doesn't make him look less of a hero. What really happened to Jessica Lynch doesn't make her look less of a hero. Both are heroes for fighting, regardless of whether we agree with the war or not. It upsets me that they would do this for political reasons.

Gotta sell that war!

Tillman dying by someone's screwup doesn't sound as cool as dying in a bad@ss firefight.

I think the press loves to tear down everything about this country. They insist on it.

Erudite------I think it was in an effort to make him look like a hero and give him dignity in death and served no ulterior motive.
