If there is a god and Jesus then the people were doing what was prophesied to fulfill the prophecy. They may not have known what they were doing but it was preordained by god to be done. For Jesus to be the son of god he had to fulfill ALL the prophecies and die on the cross. If this was stopped and Jesus was set free or god stopped it then the prophecy would not have been fulfilled and Jesus would not have been the Messiah. So did god forgive them? No, he didn't have to, they were part of the preordained fulfillment of the prophecy and were doing what was to be done by them. God set the stage for the life of christ and all the events had to be done as they were for there to be a messiah.

That is an interesting question. I think anyone only gets forgiveness if they can see they have done wrong, repent and ask for forgiveness. I think those who killed him had not believed that he was who he said he was so they didn't think they did anything wrong. Maybe Jesus was hoping they would realize they did wrong and knew his Father would be so hurt by how all things went, that Jesus wanted to kind of soothe God's pain by letting him know that he forgave them and wanted his Father to also..but yes, then I go back to how we get forgiveness..so i am still at the 'i am not sure' part lol. Although..maybe God had forgiven them even if they had not asked....hmmmmmmmmmmm..ok i am confused now lol. God Bless.

They did not ask for forgiveness. However we are taught to forgive those you trespass against us. So forgiveness from does not require the person to ask for it. Forgiveness from God requires that you confess it.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9)
But is confession needed to be forgiven. This statement that Jesus made in itself was forgiving them. Another example of God's mercy and forgiveness was the theft that was crucified next to him was promised a place in heaven -- salvation. There is no mention of him outwardly confessing his sins but he did accept Christ.

The Jews that were involved in nailing Jesus to the cross which cause his death were of course not given forgiveness because they do not have faith in God. A man who have lost faith in God and will not repent will not be forgiven.

Jesus' prayer was that his father forgive those who 'know not what they do". There were those among them who knew full well what they were doing and yet were ring leaders in the illegal, unjust trial and conviction of Jesus Christ. Many blindly followed them in this, being convinced of the lies perpetrated against Jesus. These who were ignorant of who Jesus really was were in line for forgiveness if they repented, and exercised faith in Jesus Christ.

god saves everyone who ASKS for forgiveness. and to the first answer, i must refute you, not for the sake of division, but for truth, love, and unity:
"yes i believe they were forgiven
if they had known that Jesus truly was God, they wouldnt have done it!!! "
well... i disagree. after the Pharisees found out Jesus rose from the dead, they STILL refused to accept the truth, and told people to spread rumors that jesus's disciples stole his body. the truth was blatantly smacking them in the face, but they refused to give up their pride that Jesus had hurt while on earth.
also, he had been doing miracles and raising the dead... they just wanted power. they didn't care about anyone but themselves.
all the above is about the pharisees, but i believe that many people still knew he was christ, or if they had tried to figure it out, they would have.
but god is a great god. he will forgive anyone who is willing to live for him no matter WHAT they had done previously, like Paul, who before becoming an apostle was a leading persecutor of the early church.

Since Christ ( the victim ) has already forgiven them the all those people had to do is repent and they are forgiven So my answer is .... of course. Do you think He died on the cross NOT to forgive, I mean that was the whole idea wasn't it? To SAVE souls?

Jesus completely contemplated his Father’s love in yet another significant way—he became “waiting to forgive.” (Psalm 86:5) This willingness became obvious even whilst he became on the torture stake. Subjected to a shameful dying, with nails piercing his arms and ft, what did Jesus communicate approximately? Did he call out to Jehovah to punish his executioners? on the different, between Jesus’ final words have been: “Father, forgive them, for they don't understand what they are doing.”—Luke 23:34. " If we have been hit, punched and stabbed and basically in the past we died might we are saying father forgive them", if we've been the father? human beings around might think of we've been loopy. Jesus even mentioned the father is extra advantageous than I. Even the headship association, Jesus known he became in subjection to his father. a million Corin 11:3, yet i want YOU to understand that the pinnacle of each guy is the Christ; in turn the pinnacle of a woman is the guy; in turn the pinnacle of the Christ is God.
