For those of you that know something about him, what do you remember best? For those of you that don't, he was an awesome man of God....he was a very unorthodox, untrained, uneducated plumber that preached in such an awesome fashion. In his meetings, there were healings and when he prayed for the dead they came back to life.

Carlson, yes people were led to Jesus in his meetings. And people were filled with the Holy Spirit which only happens to those who have first asked Jesus into their lives.

Smith is my #1 hero in the faith next to Jesus of course.
He was so unorthodox that he would be put in jail today,
one time he was given a baby that had died, he felt God told him to dropkick the baby so he did, and go figure the Baby came back to life.
There was a man who was a quadriplegic and was brought for prayer. He had two ushers stand him up and then he told them to let go, the man fell to the floor and he said pick him up. then he told them to let go, back to the floor he went. This happened a few more time and even the ushers were starting to complain, but Smith heard God tell him to do it. He said one more time to let him go and the man stood there, and he was 100% healed.
Smith's wife died and he prayed for her to come back to life and God granted his prayer, when she came back she was mad because she was with Jesus. She asked Smith to let her go, they prayed and she died again.
Smith was a man of almost unparalleled faith and it showed in his prayers. I want to be like that.
His preaching was not really dynamic or anything, he really was not pleasant to listen to. He did however move in Gods anointing at all times, and that is what an effective Preacher(or Christian for that matter).

Yes, I have heard stories of Smith Wigglesworth. Rod Parsley was trained under Smitth Wigglesworth for a while. When Mr. Wigglesworth was on his deathbed, he gave pastor Rod Parsley and double portion of his anointing.

"untrained, uneducated plumber that preached"
That is a scary thought and a dangerous combination in theology
Healings is delving into a tricky area in theology since it could be seen as acknowledging power of a healer (example in funnana's statement the power wigglesworth had) therefore not giving the power to God which makes it more pagan then Christian. Christians only give power to God.
And if there is a defense that God works through them then it is actually even worse theology since it limiting God or God "playing favorites"
Healer (and those who attempt to assert it) as a form of Christianity are bordering on heresy according to all established Christian doctrine, or any monotheistic doctrine for that matter. (from any established Church)
raised from the dead? Nope that crosses the line into heresy and paganism (santeria actually)

The devil is authentic and has been given authority over the earth. Christians take back that authority when they are born back. God instructed us to apply Scriptures adverse to the devil....He has to bow right down to the observe of God. don't be terrified of the devil...Jesus defeated Him on the flow even as He died and rose back. I have not seen the devil as Smith Wigglesworth did....yet I have seen his destruction. damaged properties, abuse, homosexuality, drugs & alcohol....to call some. Ephesians 6 tells us a thanks to face adverse to the devil.

Jan I have heard of him.A couple of his books blew my mind. The power that man had was unreal. He was so on fire for God,I would love to be like him.But ,I am afraid I pamper my flesh too much.God forgive me.
Went to a teachers convention at Pastor Steve Mays church today.Had to leave after 5.5 hours my back couldn't take it anymore. But ,I was so blessed.
Calvary Chapel of South Bay is Pastor Mays Church.<><

...Did he ever lead anyone to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? This is noticeably absent from your writing. There is nothing, nothing more important than the salvation of souls. If people are not being saved, I would be really skeptical of it.
...Did this man travel through hospitals, do healings to all the sick, or did they have to come to his meetings? This is a real complaint and observation I have with those who claim to do this today - if it were really true, why aren't they out there in the hospitals and nursing homes healing people - I think it's because they can't do it.
...I'd rather be saved and go into glory with less than a whole body - anyway, we'll be getting new bodies.
...Because of things I read in Matthew 6 and 24, I am really leery of reports of miraculous healings, observe, from Matthew 7:
...21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
...22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
...23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
...Now from Matthew 24:
...24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
...There is much deception and trickery that goes on, with so-called "evangelists" on TV and elsewhere - so have been caught in lies and it was documented, and still they continue to preach, and quite often it is not the "evangel", it is not the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. They spend their time on secondary and/or non-priority issues.
...I think most of these "vital (cough!) ministries" are money-making scams who prey on hurting people, and I have read that many participants leave them, disillusioned.
**
...Another point, from Matthew 12:
...39 But He answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;
...40 for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
**
...I urge all to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone, and be saved (Acts 16:31)
...Whosoever will, may come.

I remember best the picture of him holding his little bible as he preached. Oh, and that his wife was the preacher first before he received his baptism.
