I realize the question might sound dumb, but let's say I wanted to use a carrot. Would I chop it up first? Or if I chose to use tomato - how would I avoid getting those little seeds in my drink? Tomato juice (and soup) never has those seeds.

I'm sure that I could easily find many drink recipes in searches on the internet, but what I guess I'm mostly wondering is if it's actually worth it, as opposed to simply buying tomato juice or V8, or various fruit juices.

Jim,

Juicers take a LOT of work.

You have to peel the fruit or vegetable, core it to remove the stem and/or seeds and slice them up to put into the juicer.

Also, it takes a lot of produce to make a small amount of juice.

Finally, juicers are difficult to clean.

You are better off, in my opinion, getting a good blender like Oster (NOT Cuisinart) and making smoothies.

Juicers usually have a place where the furit or veggie pulp come out and another place for the juice. You wouldn't get the seeds from a tomato in your juice. You wouldn't need to chop up something small like a carrot unless you wanted to. Large things like apples need to be chopped up.

The juice you get from V8 and such is okay but it's cooked and processed so a lot of the nutritional value is killed away. If you have a juicer at home you'd get all the good stuff because you wouldn't be heating the juice to pasteurize it. I owned a Champion juicer once and it was a lot of fun.... but it can be a hassle to clean. Juicers are a great way to get the nutrition and vitamins from your produce. I say give it a try!

When you make tomato juice it has to be strained
use a cheese cloth. If you're into the healthy things then it's worthwhile but if you're thinking of saving $'s it's not worthwhile unless you grow your own food then in that case you should have a juicer. Of course you have to chop things up unless the juicer instructs say so. There are instructions on using a juicer when you get one unless you get yours from a garage sale! Don't get the cheapie or the most expensive. Get a middle range priced juicer.. you can buy online through www.dollardaysplus.biz or simply go to your local store that could be Zellers or Sears or Woolworths or Walmart. Buying on line you'll pay at least 1/4 less than buying at a store!
You can get books at your local library on using a juicer that's how I learned.. I got mine from my Mom! Many talk about fibre needing so much a day. Not every persons system is the same. Eat plenty of fibre and if you need more energy then drinking juices are better than over eating! Every one knows what happens if You over eat!
Also Juices can quicken the making of soups like tomato soup! Some tomato soups do still have the seeds in. The seeds don't hurt you! It's the nit pickers that don't want seeds in their food or drink!

I've used a few different juicers over the years. The Jack LaLane juicer is fairly reasonable and comes with recipes and suggestions. You do have to cut carrots into chunks before adding them. I like carrot, apple and a few slices of fresh ginger. I don't know that I've ever made tomato juice in the blender but my recipe book suggests tomatoes, cucumbers and celery. Another one adds fresh parsley. You pretty much have to cut and chunk everything. Otherwise it's hard on the blender. It is usually suggested to peel any fruits that aren't organic and some have to be peeled - like grapefruit.

The Juiceman is another good juicer that is fairly reasonable in price. If you have the money you can spend a lot more but I think I would start with a less expensive model and see how you like it. I haven't used mine in a while but will probably start again this summer.

As far as seeds, there is a strainer in the bowl of the juicer that filters out the seeds. The juice does come out fairly thick and some people like to strain it. I prefer it thick.

I think I'll whip up something juicy right now. Enjoy!

You need to talk to your doctor regarding this. You should not be having sex AT ALL, protected or otherwise, if you are not ready to take responsibility for the consequences...i.e. UNPLANNED PREGNANCY. You've already damaged the fetus by taking the first pill (if you've not KILLED it already) and you NEED to be seen by your doctor immediately if the abortion is not complete. As much as I am against abortion, you need to make sure that you come out of this healthy (since your baby can't).
