i am 16
my back has been hurting since christmas and is gradually getting worse
ive been to the chiropractor at least 12 times and i went to an emergency clinic b/c i could barely walk and they just said i was having bad back spasms and sent me out with some muscle relaxants.
then last week i went to my doctor and he sent me to get xrays b/c he thought i might have slight scoliosis. the xrays came back fine. and he gave me a different type of muscle relaxer b/c the other one made me sleepy.
my back still hurts it is starting to affect my school work and i had to quit gymnastics. the muscle relaxants work some but not a lot. i use heat and ice and those icy hot patches. and they relieve the pain for a short time. i have no clue what is wrong. i think my parents are starting not to believe me. its all of my lower back and the sides of my back from the bottom of my shoulder blades down. i dont know what else to do if the doctors cant find anything. it hurts!!! please help me.

I don't know what country you reside in. Look up your medical association or, Govt., agency that Lic's doctors and find yourself a really good oriental acpuncturist.
I am a board certifed clinical psychiatrist and acupuncturist.
Believe in holistic approach. Acupuncture has been around before Jesus Christ, used by the Chinese for just about any treatment that your regular doctors will treat with meds.
Works 100% and very natural.
My personal advise is that you seek out a doctor who has atleast four years of university study in the field of acupuncture. Stay away from doctors who are Lic., to practice acupuncture with only two years of study. (I have six years of study), and I can assure you that your back pain will go away with acupuncture).

get a massage. Or be slightly active but not too hard on it. I had back troubles that put me out of hockey (strange lower back issues), but I was fine 2 years later. However I missed out on the years where we'd be scouted by Junior Teams and stuff.
I'd say give your back a rest, or do mild exercise. Try Yoga, that could be awesome. Or if you are sexually active lol, I hope not at 16, then have sex. Maybe it would be good for your back and you wouldn't be so uptight. However I don't wish to advocate sex as a way for a 16 year old girl to remove her back pain. Your dad would want to kill the guy haha.
All jokes aside, you'll be fine 2 years from now I guarantee it. I went to chiropractors and physiotherapy, and it didn't cure it right away or anything, I did massages too.
Ok, so you probably have to put gymnastics aside for now, and I guess work at school, and just have fun with things and your friends.
Just rest it, and remain in good physical shape.
You may get back into gymnastics after it's feeling better down the road.
I had to quit competitive hockey, and I went down to play recreational a few times a week. Pain would be so bad that I couldn't walk and stuff. It was a crappy experience.
PS ignore the sex part haha, it's only a joke and it's not really a solution. This is obviously an injury, and it takes time to heal. My dad used to joke with me and told me to get laid or something, and my back pain would go away. Lol, I was in grade 9 or 10 or something when my back pain was the worst.

Chiropractic is a very good protocol for back pain. However, like everything else, there are good ones and not-so-good ones. You might want to try a different chiropractor. If you find one that tries to sell you on an expensive package with 80-90 visits (as an estimate), that's probably not going to be your best choice.
I am a chiropractor and I look at each person individually to try and determine the course of treatment they need. When I find a case such as yours, I often will send them to an acupuncturist which greatly enhances what I do. I only utilize one acupuncturist as I know her qualifications and her record of getting results. If you go to an acupuncturist, ask if they were trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). That will be your best guide. I've seen acupuncture do remarkable things (on myself, included).
A chiropractor is the most qualified doctor to deal with back pain. Don't let anybody tell you different. I can back that up with scientific studies, too. You just need to find the right one for you. If you're anywhere near Colorado Springs, I can help.

where are you located? PM me just city and states..and i'll find you a good chiropractor...
severe back pain at 16 without trauma that's getting progressively worse is usually a red flag..it doesn't seem like you've been treated with fair amount of attention...
there's not enough info on your post to even have a good guess on what the problem might be...you just need to find a good practitioner..
It so happens that it isn't uncommon for patients to see half a dozen to more than a dozen before finding someone who can help or at least point you to right direction...
Back pain is a very complicated thing to manage and diagnose that most pediatrician or family physicians are ill-equipped to deal with it..
Orthopedists won't be of much help unless you are surgical case..so a good chiropractor is the best bet...

You need to see an orthopedic doctor. Have your parents make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor to find out what is going on. ALso since the chiropractor is not helping you back do not go back there until you get this taken care of by the ortho doc.

Ok, this may sound a bit freaky, but try getting accupunture...
it will help calm the muscles down....
If you decide to go, MAKE SURE THE needles ARE CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go to an orthopedic doctor or a specialist and hopefully, they'll send you for an MRI...
Don't lay on hard objects, have a nice soft bed when you sleep (but not overly soft or else you could make the pain worse)
Once you find out what's wrong, you can try to go to a Physical Therapist for some exercises to help strengthen your back...
Hope this helps!!!!!
