How does a keylogger program work? I know it copies everything that is typed, but I have some other questions too.
1. Does it also save info that is sent by another person like emails and IM's from friends?
2. It has to be download on the computer you want info saved right? It can not be download on one computer to access another one, right?
3. Can the saved info be accessed from another computer or only from the computer it's download on? As info the can you only see that saved info by going on the same computer it's download on?
4. Can a keylogger harm your computer?
5. Will an anti virus software like Norton or whatever detect and erase the keylogger?

Thanks!

How is everything?:
Mostly, there are two kinds of keylogger:
1. Remotely installable keylogger.
You can embed the keylogger into an email, word file or something else. The target will be infected once the user clicks and opens the file with keylogger. This kind of keylogger is a sort of virus or Trojan horse, which may also damage your computer.
2. Physically/manually installable keylogger. This kind of keylogger is safer to use. But physical access is required for installation. After configuration, the logs can be viewed in remote locations by email, FTP or web portal.
As remotely installable keyloggers may be Trojan horses or viruses, there is no place to get unless from hackers. By comparison, it is safer to use the physically installable keylogger like aobo keylogger ( http://www.keylogger-mac.com/ ) and micro keylogger ( http://www.microkeylogger.com/ ).

Hope my tips helps

1. Yes it can depending on which Key Logger you get. I reccomend checking out.. [ downloads.com ] they have alot of great ones on there and they are rated and tell you the features.

2. It could be downloaded on another computer and accessed from another if you had remote access to the computer. Back in the day we used to use a little hacking program called SUB7 and it was a trojan horse virus that did that exact thing.

4. Key Loggers do not harm your computer.

5. To my knowledge they will not pick up or erase the key logger again that might depend on the one that you are using.
