My dog is almost a year old, whenever I take him out, he barks out of control at other dogs (all sizes) and adults, he is not that way at home, he is a good dog, obedient and disciplined, very loving and people really like him, however lately his barking is out of control & can't take him to any kind of park without him barking and causing everyone to stare, & never stops til, I finally get so upset & we have to leave, he is a maltese & though I love him, I can't deal with this any more he is well fed & cared for, there's nothing violent around, or out of order, I give him a lot of love, what do I do? I do take him out for walks & bathroom, but he is impossible to deal with, besides obedience school, how do you remedy such dilema?? no offenses please, I haven't done anything to cause this. Thanks...

go to this website http://www.quansaqcollar.com/
great training resource check out the on-line forum under the links.
they can help you.
Take him to the park. Give him an area that is free from activity but close enough to observe it, i.e. other dogs, people. Stay out of that area and keep others out even if you have to be rude.
Attach 2 collars on dog attach one with long line (15 feet lightweight cotton rope or clothesline) this one is for you to hold in hand. On the second collar place short lead or leash firmly attached to a stationary object. stake, tree, etc.
Step away from dog 10 feet or more holding long line.
When he begins to bark correct him with a quick jerk on the long line. Say firmly "Quiet" or "No Bark"
Tell him to be "Easy"
When the dog is calm praise him for being calm and quiet say "Good Quiet" "Nice Easy". Simple praise will work wonders. Save the treats for a nice long "Down" while being quiet and calm.
Be fair, firm, and consistent no free play with other dogs until he learns to behave.
Repeat as often as possible and in many different environments. Get a 10 pound dumbbell and take it with you. You will learn to love this dog anywhere,
Go to website. Check out the q-bone and q-calmer not expensive both work wonders. Read forum.
Never hit your dog as someone posted above, you need to teach your dog to observe quietly. To trust you anywhere and to learn that he is safe and does not need to bark.

Your dog is trying to "protect " you. He thinks that he is the Pack Leader, and that you are vulnerable. You must teach him that you are #1. Dogs think in terms of a pack. Once you assert yourself as the Pack Leader, in a way that your dog can comprehend (it is simply a matter of taking charge), your dog will respect your authority. You are not being rude or disrespectful to your dog, in fact, you are helping your dog to understand. A confused dog is an agressive dog, and a dog that has a clear understanding of his place in the pack is a happy and content dog. Be the Alpha dog. Your dog cannot think like you do. You must think like a dog.
Cesar Milan, "The Dog Whisperer", has many helpful tips to show your dog just who is in charge. www.dogpsychologycenter.com
I have learned a lot about dogs from this man,and while his techniques may not be for every person, or every dog, I have never yet seen a dog(or an owner) that can not benefit from his teachings.
Now: how?...................when he barks, tug on his leash and say "SH" in a firm voice. Do not choke him or pull him, just let him know, by authority, that this behaviour is not acceptable. After a few times, he will understand. Dogs really want to please. Always be the Pack Leader....in charge.
What you have done wrong, if you can even call it that, is you have not given your dog (oh jeez, do I remember this word) ..........guidance.
Unlike children, dogs are actually happier if you take the burden of command.

I have a part schnauzer who used to do this. The way I solved it (by accident) was by taking him to a off leash dog park. I was scared at first to let him off the leash, because I thought he'd just bark and try to bite the other dogs. This wasn't the case. The other dogs came to greet him, he cowered a little and then took off to go sniff and wonder around. That was 4 years ago. He doesn't bark anymore. We only went 5 or 6 times. I guess he just had to find out that these other dogs weren't out to get him. Maybe you can find a social group. Hope this helps. Good luck.

An 8 week old domestic dog will unquestionably bark and howl up a hurricane. no longer understanding this and tense approximately what the acquaintances think of could make me subject approximately you making the staggering decision even bringing it homestead as ALL doggies will try this being taken removed from it`s mom and p.c.. for the 1st time. attempt putting a towel over the doggies crate. to boot flow lower back to the breeder and the two get a towel or toy or something that includes the fragrance of the siblings and/or mom to make it experience greater guard once you go away it on my own once you flow to mattress. this remains no assure that it will bring about spite of the shown fact that it may help some. The donning on will quickly adequate end on it`s very own in approximately yet another 3 to 4 weeks yet till then I`m afraid which you will basically could desire to handle it. good success and God Bless

It seems that if he is barking at other dogs he may be trying to say "Hi" and would like some more interaction with other dogs. Since you said he isn't violent or anything maybe you could set up a play date with another pup for him where he could get his energry out. If you take him for a walk and he barks at everything, the spray bottle technique is a good form of discipline to show you are "alpha" dog and that he needs to listen to you.

This may sound funny but it works.
The best way I have found to teach a do not to bark, is to teach it to bark on command. Once you do that your dog will know what you are talking about when you tell it not to.
The disciplin can (can with coins in it) is another approach.

I have two Maltese boys. Don't worry. The older they get the less they do the barking. One of my boys is 15 months old and he just got over it.
The only form of discipline I will use is the spray bottle with water in it. I have always used it and it works for everything. When your boy barks tell him "NO" and spray him in the face with the water. My boys only need to hear me ask, "Where is my water bottle?" They stop instantly whatever they are doing. It only takes once and he will get the idea.
Don't ever hit him with your hand or a newspaper. You will kill his self esteem. All this Alpha and leader of the pack is garbage. You are the adult and he is the pup. That is it.

Start training him at home to be quiet. Give him a command, hush, quiet, enough, whatever and reward him. Do this for a while until he gets it and then take him to an area where he doesn't get overly excited, but does bark. Give him his command and IMMEDIATELY reward him with a treat as soon as he's silent. If he stops to look at you give him the treat. It will take a while and you'll have to work up to the really exciting times slowly. He'll get it. Good luck.
