Write down the chapter and page of the display on a piece of paper. Go to that chapter and advance it till you get to where you left off. >>/ for chapter >> slow search on most units.

This is actually a feature of the player. Both my sony and cyberhome player, if I stop the player, and turn it off will start the movie at the same point when I start playing that disc again. There isn't anything you can do if your player does not have this memory function.

on my dvd player, if you are watching a movie and want to stop and resume the next day, you just click the power button and turn the dvd player off, instead of pressing stop and then turning it off, jus press the power button

I think about the only thing you can do is to go to the main menu and go to Scene Selection and look through all the different scenes on the menu and pick the one closest to where you left off. That is what I usually do.
