Oh yes! I have tithed faithfully for almost 1 year now! For a couple years I really strayed from God, but now I'm forgiven, and I'm so much happier!! In fact, I have so much faith in God, that I gave $100 dollars, asking and believing that he was going to make that grow to so much more than I had! Remember, God can do more with 10% of our money, than we can do with the 90%. : )

The tithe was strictly for those who grew crops and/or raised herds and flocks. Jesus was a carpenter (MK 6:3); Paul made tents (Acts 18:3); most of the apostles were fishermen (MT 4:18)....they were not subject to the tithe.
Also, the tithe was only for the "locals". At the time of Malachi, most of the Hebrews had opted to stay in Babylonia even though they were granted permission to return from exile to Jerusalem. Babylonia is in or around present day Iran. Look at a map....can you imagine bringing your 10% offering to Jerusalem on a 20-day journey in the hot sun with fresh produce -- and (obviously!) no refrigeration? How would you be able to offer God rotted produce? Or what of those Hebrews living in Alexandria in Egypt? Or in Greece or even in Antioch? Same issue.
Last -- but not least -- God ONLY wanted the tithes brought to the storehouse (temple) during years 1,2,4 & 5 of a 7-year cycle. Years 3 & 6 everything was to be left in the corners of the gardens for the poor. Year 7 was always the year of the Jubilee and no planting was to be done at all. If you tithe every year, you do, of course, disobey God's command.
One more thing....SOME of the tithes were to be brought to the storehouse.....other tithes were to be enjoyed by the persons who brought them as a celebration! "Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice" (Deuteronomy 14:23-26).
If you're going to tithe, do not insult God by doing more than he commands. It is not an act of piety to do so but rather it is one of pride.

Please do no longer enable the irrelevant movements of this guy reason you to to reveal far off from God. the telephone call grow to be very a lot out of line and he must be said to the headquarters of his denomination. i'm a Christian, member and worker of a church. I were a Christian for twenty-four years and Treasurer of this church for 16 years. i'm a believer in tithing and accomplish that each and each and every week. God has sustained my relations through banquet and famine. My husband, now retired, grow to be a timber worker for decades. Lay offs and unemployment grow to be a common element for us notwithstanding we under no circumstances ignored a private loan fee and continually had food interior the residing house. Tithing must be finished from a want to obey God's observe and under no circumstances blackmail through a Pastor. i'm extremely sorry for your journey and pray you'll come across a good looking good church and initiate to tithe because you want to. A church that does no longer exhibit funds and the position the money is spent would not get my tithe.

Yes, if you will read the several books of the old testament the early people of God offer tithes.... but it does not mean they are testing God. The act of tithing is God's command to His people. But we must know that tithing is not commanded on Christians anymore that is in the regime of Christ. Take note that there is a difference in the commands given by God in the early days compared to the Christians.

I don't give according to Old Testament Jewish laws because I've been freed from the curse of the law and am now under grace. Instead I give according to the pattern laid out in the New Testament.
2 Corinthians 9:6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 9 As it is written, "He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." 10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way for all your generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.
In case you are wondering I stopped giving 10% a long time ago. Since God has done so much for me, giving only 10% of my time, talents and treasures in return would not make me a cheerful giver.
