Well I know where i live here in the city. We are only allowed 2 dogs unless we get it okayed by the city hall or city government to allow us to have atleast one more dog. I would say 2 is just the right amount though.
I guess it all depends on where you live maybe in the country if you had a big yard you could handle more like 3-4. But personally 2 dogs is just right for me.

About 2 is a good number of a dogs a person should have no more than 3. It is good to have more then one so that the other dog won't get bored being alone. Its a lot more work but two is better than one.

Only as many as they can responsibly care for, including
1) Feeding a good quality food
2) Giving adequate shelter
3) Paying for the vet bils
4) Training them to be well-mannered
5) Cleaning up after them
6) Exercising them
7) Socializing and interacting with them
Some people shouldn't have ANY dogs. Some could have 10 or more.... everybody's circumstances are different.

For some people one dog is too many others, can comfortable care for 20 dogs and meet all their needs, offer each one individual attention and have healthy happy animals, I do not agree with restrictions as long as you can prove you can care for them then I feel you should not be limited
I am a single person who works fultime, I have 4 dogs they are all happy and healthy, get fed a good quality food, are up to date with vet care, the 2 seniors go for check ups twice a year, all are on heart med, get dentals as needed, my vet is happy with the condition of all the dogs, and they all get along. I also used to do dog foster care as well, I have a photo album attached to my profile of my furgang and a couple of my foster dogs

A single person should have only a few dogs unless they are for a specific purpose. I currently have 13 dogs. They are a sled team. I have a great setup for them. They have 5'X10' kennels, a one acre play yard, four 50' aerial run lines for excersise and insulated dog houses for winter. We also have a 15 acre yard adjoining state forest land with trails to run. Unless you have great determination and sufficient resources, I would not recommend more than 3.

I had about 1200 acres at the time....

I think you should have as many as you can comfortably handle e.g. if they've got enough room to run around in and warm kennels, food etc there should not be a limited number but keep it within reason, after all, dogs are mans best friends aren't they???

as many as you can look after.
you have to make time to give them all the individual attention that they need, depending on the size and breed of the dogs this will vary.
don't forget the more dogs you have the bigger the vet bill.
you have to be able to vaccinate them all and worm them. if one gets sick you can be looking at a large vet bill. if one gets fleas then they will soon all have fleas you have to be able to look after them all.
then if you want them to be healthy you are most likely better off to cook your own dog food so you know what they are eating.
My opinion is to look at yourself to see how many you can handle. I have one dog and he is my best friend, all my time is spent with him and my mums two dogs. he is my baby and at the moment he dons't want me to share my love with another dog (he told me that lol). when the time comes that he passes on i will look at getting another dog but at the moment i am going to spoil him better than any other dog in world and to do that he can be my only dog (he said that too lol).

It depends on how responsible the pet owner is. If you're breeding ( you shouldn't unless you have a purpose of ) then you can have 3 or4 females and 2 or 3 males. 2 pets are better than one so they aren't lonely. Your state might have a limited number of dogs you can have.
p.s. hope i helped.
