I need help! I'm overweight. I have 2 kids, no childcare until the evening. So working out at a facility is next to impossible. Does anyone know of any good diets that WORK? Something that wont starve me and something that wont take me to the poor house? And by chance might not take years to work? I have ideas, but nothing that really works for my body type. I am about 80 lbs overweight right now...thanks to my kids and my inability to stop shoving food in my mouth...I know it's awful.

been there done that...and I know its hard as food can be very addicting. You must start cutting down on your portions each day.Don't get seconds no matter how hard it may be. Try your best to start a healthy low fat and low sugar diet.Stay a way from all fried foods.if you stop at MC Donald order a grilled chicken sandwich with a healthy delicious salad(no salad dressing as they are very high in calories and fat) instead of a burger with fries.Stay away from fatty snacks such as chips cookies and ice cream. You must Start exercising daily but start slowly and get an okay from your doctor first. Can you put your children in a carriage and push them through a park outdoors? Power walking is very good in jump starting your metabolism include weight training get a set of 5 pound dumbbells (a walmart for around $5 a piece)I highly recommend to get some cardio and strength training DVDs by LESLIE SANSONE(available at walmart or for a low price on eBay).I work out daily with her right in my own home and i lost 43 pounds within 5 months without feeling starved at all. Now remember never to skip a meal as this will only slow down your metabolism. instead of 3 large meals a day try to have 5-6 Small meals.Any questions feel free to email me if I can do it so can you.You go women get up and get moving lose the weight became healthy and sexy again.
also simple house work such as sweeping mopping and vacumming floors or mowing the lawn( and I'm not talking about a riding mower) will burn calories.
by starting a good healthy diet and exercising you will lower high blood pressure high sugar levels diabeties high colesterol and you will add years to your life to spend with your loved ones. You are so worth it. Again feel free to email me I would love to help get YOU motivated.Good Luck and God Bless!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Don't blame your kids. Kids sometimes seem to get in the way, but are a great blessing. It seems as though you're depressed. Make small lifestyle changes. Maybe limit your number of sodas if you drink them or try drinking more water. Many times we mistake thirst for hunger. Be realistic, don't diet or starve yourself. Perhaps, buy different things to snack on celery, carrots, or anything low calorie and good for you.Try water aerobics. They are fun and really work. .They offer them day and night and they're not that much. The YWCA may still offer a program for free for you and your children if you're on a fixed income. There is a website on the Internet that can help you count your calories. Fitday.com. Don't give up, make small sacrifices and they will pay off. Take your kids for a walk. Walking is great. I have problems with my weight too. I'm a 38 year old mother and college student. I put on weight from sitting around eating while I'm doing my homework. When I walk or do water aerobics they really do help.

You really should try weight watchers. It works great. You make your own meals and you choose your own foods. You can even eat weght watchers ice cream of which I eat a lot! You can join online and don't have to go to meetings but will still get the benefit of counselors and support. You can choose to do it on your own once you get the basic idea (a very short amount of time). Good luck.. you can do it. My neighbor just finished weight watchers.. he lost sixty pounds. I'm on it now and I've lost twelve so far.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.

Well I once read to wipe the term 'diet' off one's vocabulary as it only sounds temporary and eating is really a way of life (with of course slip-ups here and there ;) There may be a weight management course offered thru your local hospital which tend to be accredited either by the American Dietetic Association or American Dairy Council and teaches about sound, healthful eating and increasing one's physical activity (with ok from doc). Programs such as those may talk about increasing fiber (gradually as to lessen chance of intestinal gas/problems) into your eating plan such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains/whole wheat products. (Product must say '100% whole wheat or whole grain for it to be the whole kernal and nutrition.) They provide bulk into the diet and tend to not have as many fat and calories.

The program might also go over the different types of fats: saturated, polyunsatured, monounsatured and the worse one, transfats which is supposed to be a variation of saturated fats but worse! Transfats or partially hydrogenated oils make the good cholesterol (HDL/high density lipoprotein) go down and the bad (LDL/low density liprotein) go up. I actually did a couple (for reinforcement as opposed to one) of the hospital-based group class programs and got a lot out of each of them. More than I ever thought that I would, and some hospital-based programs may be partially covered by health insurance but need to check ahead of time. Another thing that we learned was what the instructor referred to as 'mixed fuels' and that is having a snack that has a protein along with a carb such as peanut butter with an apple for slower absorption of glucose into blood as opposed to 'just' the apple by itself. (Low fat crackers with cream cheese would be another example of 'mixed fuels.)
